Anyone going to view Holts next sale please?

Just wondering if anyone is planning to go to the viewing day(s) for Holts April sale & willing to check out a lot for me please?

I have a significant birthday this year & there is a lot that has caught my eye… have requested the condition report but always good to have someone actually get hands on with it, especially as I anticipate that it’ll go well above its estimate!

Sorry to hear it wont be up to standard. Im sure the sadness wont last long and you find something else to fill the void soon enough

I must admit the condition reports that Holts do are pretty full and frank as to the condition of the gun. They are very much warts and all. I have been tempted by a few things but have walked away.

Many of the guns are probably pretty good for the trade. If you the skills and facilities to sort out the problems, some will then be very nice guns, especially if you are then selling into retail, especially American retail market.

And some even if you are paying retail prices to have the work done will still be significantly less than having an equivalent gun made today.

I looked at a beautiful Westley Richards drop lock with two pairs of barrels a few days ago. Fully restored to as new condition and still very tight. Tag price was just under £6,000. If you went to Westley Richards and asked them to build the same gun today I suspect you would pay at least 10 times that, and with the second pair of barrels probably 15

This was the lot I was tempted by - ignore the estimate, it’ll go for more than that! I was prepared to pay a sensible price for it hoping that it’d be a useable ensemble, however, the shotgun barrel is likely to be OK but the description of the rifle barrel suggests it won’t be a ‘shooter’.
