FAC slugs

Getting FAC air rifle next week. Slugs are an interesting rather than essential. Looking at selection box & different between 217 & 218 - what's what there?

When I got my impact, was told you can get 216-17 and18, thought wouldn’t make a difference but it does, my impact groups best with 218, madness with the difference

Air rifles are incredibly pellet/slug fussy. I shot bench rest for a while and there was no rhyme nor reason to which particular flavour any given barrel liked. Some of the more popular pellets come in up to five or more different head sizes (e.g. in .177 = 4.49, 4.50, 4.51, 4.52, 4.53) and you would be surprised how sensitive a given barrel can be to the head sizes. Many bench rest shooters will also further check/size heads and skirts and sort/use by weight to eek the last minutia of accuracy out of their setups.

I have an FAC FX Leopard in .22. Pellet testing the other day it came down to a choice of three from thirty odd tested. However, I need to stretch the distance out to 60-90m on problem pigeons and so am now also looking at slugs. A lot more expensive but the extra power behind an FAC Air Rifle needing the added weight and ballistic capability of the slug for longer (air) distances, accuracy and (relative) wind resistance.

A little research across the forums and I've chosen to try the FX Hybrid's and Zan sample boxes (30 of each different weight) in 217 and 218.

H&N also do sample packs of different weights.

Will be interested to see what rifle you end up choosing and what slugs you find suit the barrel and your specific purposes.

This channel/chap is well worth a look for FX Rifles, slugs and all things technical around High Power (FAC) Air:

Cheers for that. Fella im buying it from says the kral loves 18gr h&n. Will have fun testing.

Happy daze for you if someone has already sorted out what it likes and has set it up.
I started trying slugs in my Crown but gave up... thought, what the hell am I doing  ?
I bought it to shoot rats around the pig units, and it does that superbly with Diablo pellets @ £18 for 500.

I don't have the inclination to turn the air rifle into the hobby, I just want to pick it up and shoot.

Someone from the airgun forum sent me a few samples to try, it might have been villaman. But nothing shot better than a Diablo pellet, not that I started to twiddle the settings on the gun, as I really haven't the foggiest what I'm doing.
You watch all the Matt Dubber videos of him knocking over Starling in Africa at 150 meters, and it sort of lures you into the dream...

I've just headshot a squirrel with my Crown at 38 yards in the garden, the wind was blowing the twigs about, but I threaded the pellet through the jungle... they really are like lazers.. I shoot rats out to 51 yards around the units, that's the longest corridor on the place.

Have fun :tiphat:

I can see me searching out more rat permissions!

Ive also put a zulus 4k on my 204 but haven't even zeroed it yet!! Lambing winding down now so can start enjoying myself again!! 😁
Ratting is great fun mate, no pressure.. Just pleasure 🤪

I've just had a few rats in the garden. My air rifle isn't up to much but knew the rimmy was on song. It's pretty conclusive on rats.
