Tyre feedback

New tyres with no tread wear will give you more grip off road. If you want more grip than the BFG MT's, then go for a more aggressive tread pattern - which will probably give you more road noise, worse road manners, and last about half the mileage.
Yep, no such thing as a free lunch or a 270 of car tyres.

Like has been said by some, if you are getting annoyed with grip from BFG muds then don’t contemplate an all terrain tyre.
Having tried a few I’d rate Toyo open country MT as my favourite then Cooper STT / Maxx, Maxxis and Falkens all good. The older pattern BFG muds were better in mud but even worse on road in my experience.
Wet grassy, muddy fields are some of the trickiest surfaces to drive on and can catch out even competition buggies and seriously good drivers.

Cheap
Look good
Do a good job across all ground
Second set of them on 2x hilux
Current hilux came with a set of half worn big a/t on it
Ran it for a year with them
Good tyres but yes prepare for wet tarmac
Just stuck radars on
With all off road tyres just watch your load ratings if towing
Breaking gets fun in the wet with a bit of weight behind you

I’ve been on Goodyear Wrangler AT for the last 5 years, and got stuck 3 times. Still OK tyre though for my driving as I do %80 road, %15 track and %5 field drive. I am thinking of changing to Cooper Discoverer AT3 unless I have a better suggestion in similar price bracket by fellow SD stalkers? It’s for Mitsubishi L200.
Tia.

please don’t. K02 is dreadful in the wet on tarmac.

I found this in standing water at speed on tarmac. Made me think carefully about driving in the heavy wet with them. Although I think my tires were inflated quite high for fuel efficiency. On a 2.8t wagon I nearly aqua plane a few time which surprised me. Not great on slush/ ice tarmac tbh but v good in deep snow or mud / off road generally .

My snow ice tyre on older car (contis 870ps on a Touareg ) were some of the best in ice/ snow and water I have experienced. But lacking a bit off road.

I fitted Comforser CF1100s @ £116 per tyre [fitted] when the OEM rubber wore out at the 20k distance.

These tyres are quiet and grippy on tarmac [also in the wet] and adequate off-road.

I checked today and the tread depth on the CF1100s is still 9.5mm after 5300km. I.e. lower cost does not seem to mean lower tyre life.

Looking for some feedback on tyres.

Currently got BFG Mud Terrain on the pickup. I have done over 60,000 miles on them, and they weren't new when I bought the vehicle. I have been told by the garage that does my servicing etc that they wont pass the next MOT

I have found them to be hopeless on mud, grass, ice and snow, and verging on dangerous on wet tarmac. The only surface they excell on is shale or gravel, such as forestry roads, and for that reason alone I was considering replacing with the same again, as my farm is at the top of such a track.

My local tyre bloke is quite open about the fact that the only real reason people buy them is because they look cool, not because they perform well. And as a result of being trendy they're pricey.
As a much more "workmanlike" option, he is suggesting that I go for the Wildgear Falcon Mud Terrain tyres instead. They certainly look a lot "grippier". And they're a lot cheaper.

Anyone got any firsthand experience of the Falcon, or done a comparison of the two?

Top photo is the Wildgear Falcon, and bottom photo is the BFG. As you can see, the BFG presents a lot of flat surface, despite the appearance of being "knobbly".

I put BFG Mud terrains on a Rodeo that rarely went over 45mph and they melted, gone in 15k. With hindsight I wondered if they were counterfeit ones as they were 20% cheaper than I expected.

Yet someone earlier says they are dangerously bad on the road !

So many opinions and all so different

I’m due a set of tyres now and am not sure about BFG a/t cause tbh they are expensive as hell .

The Falkens seem very well liked

I previous recommended Michelin Cross Climates as a good compromise tyre. I am still very happy with the grip on all surfaces but have recently had 3 of my 4 tyres develop bulges of the running surface. Tyre less than 3 years old/30,000 miles.

I firstly started to get a wheel vibration. Buldge was diagnosed on a front tyre. Change to another pair, problem solved.

A few months later the truck started to develop a shake. Really bad at times, not so bad at others.
Back to the gate and 2 rear tyres out of "round" and to top that there were wires sticking out of the inside tyre wall!.

Beware.

That's unfortunate because they are like the creme de le creme of all seasons. It's not the first time I've heard of the carcass breaking down and either bulging or delaminating.

Yes, and to make matters worse i replaced the first two (front) tyres with another pair of Cross Climates to keep a "marching set", then when the rears failed i was pretty much he committed to doù
