Hornady CX in 270

Seen them used a couple times on sika and roe, out to about 250m.

Truth be told, they seemed to perform identically to lead. I don’t think I’d be able to tell the difference, either from reaction to shot or carcass damage.

This was factory 130gr.

I think I’d be happy using them.

Roe: 1 x centre chest, no shoulder hit. Staggered around in small circles before falling over. 1 x low shoulder, just above heart. Dropped to shot. 1 x neck, dropped to shot. 1 x strongly quartering, in behind elbow, out through front fleshy part of haunch. Ran 40m.

Sika: 2x front chest, through muscle of offside shoulder, but without hitting bone. Ran 10 and 35 meters. 1 x high shoulder, dropped to shot. 1 x liver. Ran 40m.

sounds like it performs well, thanks for the feedback :)

I have friends who use these in .270. Impressive groups and...unsurprisingly when put in the right place...dead Deer.

I'm actually yet to hear any negative reports on the CX. Going to do so preliminary testing tomorrow with some 130.

Quick resurrection, what powders you chaps using in 270 ? My barrel is a bawhair over 20", RS52 works great under a lighter copper bullet, but I've got RS60, RS62, N555 & N165

I'm using the 80gr hornady outfitter in my .243 taken 12 red deer with one running about 50y. In my 6.5 creedmoor im using the 120gr CX rupperformance 5 hinds and a stag all chest shot.
Got some 120gr for reloading, thats my next project.

are you finding that they're opening up ok? And if so, any excessive damage to note? what kind of ranges have you shot deer with them?

I have used hundreds of CX bullets in my 7mm-‘08 Rem (139 Grn) since they were introduced.

I have shot lots of muntjac and a good few water deer, roe and wild fallow plus a couple of seasons worth of park red and fallow.

They work perfectly ok.

Not great shot site evidence or blood trails on the chest shot larger deer but that is what I have come to expect from all copper bullets.

My only issue with them is the cost but, again, that is the case with all ammo now.
