Out last night.

#17

Out last night for a lamb killer. Farmer told us where he has lost a few so set up and waited for dark.

Not long after dark a fox appeared and was harassing ewes with lambs at foot ....watched the fox hassle 3 different ewes before it eventually came within range with a little help from the foxpro playing lamb distress.

Only a yearling dog but glad he's out the way.

Nice night for it so took 22 CZ stutzen with V1 Zulus on board and shot 11 rabbits out to 72 yards - missed a few cos very windy but pleased with Zulus….

I also rate it’s last knockings picture…..

Most bunnies I have shot in a long time but sadly a mere shadow of the numbers I used to see.
Then headed homewards but en route stopped at hill farm where I have a tally of 51 foxes so far but have seen nothing there in several outings. Walking down the lane a fox crossed 100 yds in front of me so a quick scramble back up to the nearest gate and a frantic scan with the Pulsar and there it was unconcernedly crossing the field. Usual demented windmill ensued but managed to get it all untangled (ever caught your thermal lanyard in the partially open quad sticks in pitch black - Foxy has…I thought I was having a sodding stroke as I couldn’t push the sticks open). A quick and even more demented than usual squeak brought it my way. Bit of a snapshot but resounding “whummmmp” confirmed what I saw through the V2 Zulus mounted on the sainted triple deuce.

Lovely to be out and get a few bunnies and a bonus fox and a further reminder of just how much night shooting has changed since I was a tyro fox shooter…

PS
Watching these reminded me to change the time on both…

Well, I decided to take up a firmware update on the Mergers before going out last night, now my history with firmware "updates" ain't been great over the past few years, but I have to admit this one was faultless and a brilliant uptick in performance.
Anyways here is the news,:)

First one in amongst the lambs with obvious intent!

Second one hunting ground based birds.

Both Dogs.

After all that I feckin' missed. I shouldn't have taken the shot, everything felt wrong.

Soon as I entered through gateway, was 99% sure could see top of head above tall grass. Got on scope to confirm (though thats another story, but very unimpressed so far, think I need to tweak how I've set it up). Managed to confirm but only really as it began to move as it sussed me. Couldn't get set quick enough on trigger sticks. Was off balance, scope not properly focused when fox stopped face on about 90yd. Should have just let him go on but I rushed a shot instead 😡🤬 prick. Didn't look or sound like a hit, still looked but no sign. Packed up straight away, back to van. No point once my heads gone like that. Fuming at myself & scope. Thought I'll check footage, as i know the auto record kicked in when I zeroed....nah, course it feckin' didn't tonight. Bollocking arseholes, im off to bed.
