Rabbitting

A couple of dozen last night in a horse paddock between 2 of us with 22 rimfires.
Many years ago sat in a cottage with a long gone keeper friend when I asked him how many rabbits he'd shot in his keepering days he thought for a moment and said well there's 22 thousand in this cottage.

A think we’re fairly lucky up here in Northumberland/ Durham we have high ground no easy accessible with vehicles even pick up
Quads / gators . So we have to use shanksys pony to get to where the rabbits are .
Think that helps the rabbits some what
Am getting old now so the high ground seems to get higher 🥵🥵
But a keep plodding on
Same here FB,them quarry walls are almost vertical now, sure they less steep 20 yrs ago😄😄

Has anyone been asked for rabbit ears 🤷‍♂️ . Had at least 4 people asking for them a said as a chew they said no
There a natural wormer …..
av had dogs ferrets & few horses most ma life & this is a new one on me 🤷‍♂️
I need to find a source to sell the ears, ive over 8kg of them filling the freezer!

Not a lot of rabbits around me, but just got back from a Scottish trip. 3 blokes, 3 days, 4 nights.... 480 rabbits in the freezer, 7 goats in the chiller and not a lot of sleep!
Ive been asked to help reduce the booming rabbit numbers. Thanks for the help Andy - a long drive for you boys. The tally over the 4 trips is just shy of 1500 rabbits this winter. A mixture of .22 subs, 17hmr or if its blowing 30mph the .223 comes out. Great sport, hard work and long nights. Next time i will try my hand at long nets.

Bunnies are scarcer than rocking horse poo from China around here (mid-Cambs.)

Perversely, I've got as much deer stalking as I want, yet no chance at rabbits. Weird, isn't it?

(I'd love an excuse to buy a high-end PCP in .177" and all of the associated gubbins...)

No real difference in numbers where I shoot a few. Grassland surrounded by arable, shoot around 150 every year with a high percentage young. Do this most years and expect the same this summer judging by numbers at present.

Spoke to my mate yesterday and he owns 28 acres with a few bunnies on it . His neighbour has more rabbits and wants them gone as does his neighbour so a trip out is planned soon. Reason they need to go is the pikeys keep coming and leaving rabbits lying about plus left the gate open so my mates horses got out.
So its a no tolerance policy they all need to go , old and young.

Remember the pics mate 👍
I will get work harder!

Out of interest im keen to known what sort of ranges others shoot at on there rabbit permissions.

This paddock is good in the sense that the rabbits are used to noise and movement for the horses so I can disengage stealth mode and just flaunt around as I please.

Closest shots were two at 11 yrds and on this occasion the longest was 66yrds with the .22lr

Other permissions I have to shoot them with a centerfire as they are very wary now after years of shooting them.

Here is a Pic of one of the hedgerows they have dug into to.
