If a thread is closed by mods under the banner "personal abuse" why would posts that condemn "personal abuse" go missing?

Presumably because the original "abusive" post is often quoted in the reply to it, so it would remain to be seen even after the original post is deleted, unless the reply is also deleted.
That's my guess, anyway.
