Making Tax Digital

Just went digital in November as I needed to go vat registered .
The government said going paperless is better for business . I got a vat refund for the first quarter. Guess what they sent me a paper cheque for my refund 🤷🏻‍♂️

🤔 All of my refunds arrive direct in my nominated bank account electronically.

On a slightly different tack but fully related, what are limited company owners using to do their corporation and HRMC tax digital please? Need to make my next returns digitally and unlike my VAT returns, I haven’t found a free one.

I'm using Xero for the books, I think you have to pay for any of the options but you can apply for an exemption.

Limited company so needs an accountant for books sign off anyway. I can ask mine if she's happy for me to send out details if you need one- recently taken her on but was recommended by a friend.

That's not correct. I (and others on here) do it ourselves and don't use accountants, but I do imagine your accounts are way more complex than my simple ones.

This is the current lead favourite at the moment - does anyone here have experience with this software/company please?

I use an accountant as I am not wired that way to sit and enter data into a system which could well (if I made a mistake) cause me no end of grief.
Personally I work on the basis "Do what you are good at" which would not include dealing with hmrc lol

A chap I know all but locks himself away from the start of Jan "doing his accounts" a direct quote from his wife is " I wish he would use an accountant as he is a miserable so and so that month"

The cynical side of me would say that real time digital taxation for the "Self employed" being rolled out has two cutting edges to the sword.

#1 to rake in a few quid a few months before HMRC would get it in anyway.

#2 to hopefully encourage a few more self
employed to give up.... HMRC & government have wanted to do away with folks being self employed for decades... they think everybody is stuffing their mattresses with cash.... 🙄

A good living out of deer stalking?
How?
I scrape a living out of deer stalking, client stalking and teaching fly fishing.
But, I get my state pension this year so from 2027 no more guiding for me!

@Demetrius I welcome cash, but I'm not as you describe, a scumbag!
In my eyes cash is still king, we must all still use it or lose it.
I went to a pub in Exmouth recently, there was a sign saying no cash accepted but I missed it, they poured 2 drinks amounting to over £10, I offered cash, they demanded a card, I said no, walked out, who was the loser there?
50 yards down the road, 2 drinks plus meal £50 cash!

@Bo Diddley I do my own accounts....but no stuffed mattresses where I live!
