Had been seeing this wee 3 legged buck on the camera a few times. Took him out last night. Poor wee bugger was as thin as a rake

My experience with 3 legged deer is that normally, they can lead a very healthy life, even the females go on to have young for many years. Its mainly back legs that i see missing, probably from being caught in fences id think.

Got one i am monitorng at the moment ..a fallow doe...just evades the..kill zone had a few sight pictures just not a safe backstop front left severely lame,....will do it next week hopefully

Difficult to gauge sometimes: I’ve seen healthy three legged Fallow, wound healed l, feeding and keeping up with the herd. Another one with a compound fracture of the rear knee joint (I suspected a .22 strike) that had to go. Any sign of infection (hard to see mostly) and I cull them.

Sorted today....one hind leg double the diameter of the other...and lame in front.....hot day but she came out on cue..with good backstop...sad but i feel better now she is out of pain......management continues off season does it not.....

Literally limped out of a bush 30ft infront of me and the dog and couched up looking at us - even the dog was like WTF.

Good job. I wonder if that swollen fetlock/ankle full of bacteria/infection has something to do with it.

We ran a sambar hind for a full hour before she was shot. That was way back in the Buckland Valley circa `85. She had three legs only and her nearside fore was completely gone from at the body. She was in calf and roly poly.
These days I would have done a thorough inspection.
