THE BOW HUNTER

There are certain features in bow hunting. To get in shot position with bow is much harder. From that point its about the ethical shot and arrow trajectory limit's the range.
Youtube has some taking long shots and the subscribers clearly don't mind. There are way more "failed" didn't fire hunts yet barely a sign of them showing due to the ratings and algorithm to sell more advert views by google it needs a kill of any sort.
Yet there plenty of guys who are shooting dots a twenty yard comps to get to a final. Watch Lancaster Archery comp. Within the limits bow hunting is easily ethical.
Great effort has been put into the modern broad head. The best minds have been put to the task. The result is a myriad of big wound creations.
Unfortunately were have too many politicians infected by brainless sloganitis, incapable of critical thought process.

Neither one Is unethical but ethicality is a incredibly subjective opinion, I'm still going too shoot deer but the reaction rifle shot deer display compared too the upward tens of thousands of videos I've watched in my life time utilizing archery equipment makes me have differing views.

If they were ever licensed and had a training course associated with taking game, logistically who's going too do it unless they've got a genuine passion and thrive for dispatching animals within a timely manor and want too mitigate any potential risks with archery? Your not going too get the Yorkshire boys becoming proficient enough too pass an archery test so they can go shoot roe bucks when there's no legal obligation to do so and rifles are easier and have better range therefor a significant advantage.

Yes there's nutjobs but what fraction % would they be? and chances are, there nutjobs with rifles too an even more dangerous degree one bad apple out of a 100 isnt reason too disqualify an entire catigory of something. 🫣

Your two major issues with archery is String jump and Windage, both issues are nullified with closer range shots and utilizing common sense animals with heads up dont have the ability too duck and turn, and Wind is well wind.....

Hardly ever see an amateur on a bow hunt and compound is fairly easy to learn and vs trad. which Fred Bear used to take warm up shots into a punky tree for practice while on a hunt in the 60's.
On compound it is not a perishable skill like trad. The compound really didn't exist when they banned it. Classic case of brainless sloganitis. They should get therapy instead of votes
The shooting effect with expanding broad head isn't far off a 270 double lung in terms of blood trail length.
US compound season is so over popular now, how it used to be like is a common part of the video...used to nobody here and follow up rifle hunters season are complaining they aren’t left with much.. have to ban range finders on bow sights is part of their video.

12 pages deep into this already so I'm reluctant to start something new but presumably, if I've understood some of what was said earlier, bows are suitable for HAD if that's what you have to hand?

Imagine turning up at an RTA with your bow

(To be fair, distance is probably suitable, it's silent and zero ricochet issues so might beat a lot of other methods)

Deliberately choosing a more difficult hunt is unethical.
An ethical hunt is one which puts the quarry on the ground as quickly, easily and humanely as possible.
That is why shooting pheasants out of trees at dusk is more ethical than driving them over a line of guns.

Are you perhaps conflating the terms "ethical" and "fair chase"? The two are at opposite ends of the hunting spectrum, imo.

that would be like forcing people to use a less efficient arrow because theres a chance someone may somewhere cut them selves with the good arrow despite there being zero evidence of it ever happening.

imagine if we were being forced to use a less efficient bullet material in case someone somewhere got ill from eating shot game despite there being no evidence for the last few hundred years ? our shooting organisations would be in uproar about such an imposition based on such flimsy evidence ! oh wait a minute............

Absolutely.
Although to be fair, I've seen no real evidence to suggest that the bullet material that we're being forced to use is any less efficient at killing deer.
So, no evidence to support either side of the argument, really.

lead is heavier for it's size and softer so it carrys it's energy better further and expands well , i'm sure copper has come on in performance through necessity but the truth is it's not as good as what it's replacing sadly , unnecessarily replacing !

but anyway , lets not derail the thread

Don't forget also that copper is toxic 😱

Arrows are not though....
