Budget .308 options/recommendations

Evening all !

I am currently in market for a second hand .308 on a tight budget (about £500) which I know makes it pretty slim pickings but is what it is . Not bothered about anything fancy , but if I could get hold of something that's of reasonably solid build quality that will do me .Will be used both on range and In the field.

Have been looking for a while and leaning towards a parker hale of some description. Done abit of research including a few old threads on here discussing them . I have no personal experience of them myself, but keep seeing a few popping up well within budget and thinking could be a good option for what I want .

Also stumbled across a musgrave 80 for well within budget, was wondering if anyone on here has any experience of those ?? Or if anyone has any other recommendations for that end of the market.

Any advice much appreciated 👍👍

I have a PH1200C, while I like mine, you might be better getting a decent 2nd hand Remington 700 or Tikka which will allow a multitude of aftermarket accessories.
Musgrave actions have/had a good following with some target shooters, check it will accept scope rings or a rail though

There are very few really bad rifles. Look for rifles with a good bore (not just shiny). If it shoots well it’s a good rifle.

Also make sure you test for slam fire, bumps, etc. and the safety (fiddled ones can fire when on safe or when taken off safe). Too many people “tune” rifles until they’re unsafe to handle.

Spend money on a decent no frills scope. You should have plenty of choice for a rifle and scope combo at £500.

Best buys in my opinion, Tika, Ruger 77, CZ, Brno, Parker Hale or any other using a Mauser 98 action, older Remington,

Ruger American Gen 2, comes with a scope rail, threaded barrel, adjustable trigger, spiral fluted barrel, they are a lot of gun for the money, I have several they all shoot well.

Remmy 700 SPS Varmint here within your budget. Perfect for range use and short enough barrel to make carry easy enough. Choice of stocks and chassis.
