Ah right , how do you rate them ?I have a Safari in .270
It's a decent gun. But I have yet to shoot it. Stand by and I will go find itAh right , how do you rate them ?

The Musgrave Model 80 is a superb rifle. The model 80 was made in Bloemfontein, South Africa and they were were expensive rifles. If it is within budget, buy it right away.Evening all !
I am currently in market for a second hand .308 on a tight budget (about £500) which I know makes it pretty slim pickings but is what it is . Not bothered about anything fancy , but if I could get hold of something that's of reasonably solid build quality that will do me .Will be used both on range and In the field.
Have been looking for a while and leaning towards a parker hale of some description. Done abit of research including a few old threads on here discussing them . I have no personal experience of them myself, but keep seeing a few popping up well within budget and thinking could be a good option for what I want .
Also stumbled across a musgrave 80 for well within budget, was wondering if anyone on here has any experience of those ?? Or if anyone has any other recommendations for that end of the market.
Any advice much appreciated![]()
Looks really nice , really leaning towards something along these linesHere is my .270 Parker Hale Safari. As you can see from the stripper clip thumb slot it was built on a military action. If the bolt is original to the rifle, Parker Hale used a late World War 2 German Mauser action. If you look at the bolt you will see round gas relief holes. This was a machining expedient that took place in late 1944 onward.
I have never fired this rifle, but I lent it to a young guy at our range and he bagged a deer with it. The young guy was from the Philippines and he was really polite and respectful. He was having trouble with his rifle and so I loaned him the Parker Hale.
He brought me back some delicious venison
It is a no nonsense rifle and you will not be disappointed.View attachment 480310View attachment 480309View attachment 480308
A rifle based on the 98 Mauser is something you can always rely upon. I have never seen anything fail on a Mauser.Looks really nice , really leaning towards something along these lines![]()
Ah ok , would you rate one of them above the equivalent parker hale ?The Musgrave Model 80 is a superb rifle. The model 80 was made in Bloemfontein, South Africa and they were were expensive rifles. If it is within budget, buy it right away.
P.W. Botha owned one and he was found of giving them away as gifts
The Musgrave Model 80 was probably the best rifle of the late 1970s. I wish I had oneAh ok , would you rate one of them above the equivalent parker hale ?
I have a PH safari in 270. it has taken game from Scotland to Africa and many places in between. I paid £60 for it , replaced the trigger and that was a game changer.Ah right , how do you rate them ?
