Hi there. You can call me Murphy. I am almost exclusively a springer shooter at the moment (mainly Weihrauchs) and am at this moment arranging a permission on a farm to rid them of some pests. I guess you could say I'm middle aged and when I started shooting at age 14 airguns were pretty much exclusively .22, so that is what I've been used to. About 5 years ago I picked up the hobby again after a break and was encouraged to look into .177's, as if your shot placement is precise they kill vermin just as well with the right pellet. I now have x 2 .177's as well as my .22's and am now looking into buying my first PCP. Thanks for having me on here!
 
Welcome. I started hunting with a Webley Vulcan, then 2 HW77K, all in .22. But then I switched to a precharged .177 A410. So much easier to shoot at range and with a heavier pellet I noticed no difference with effectiveness. But then I bought a 30-06 which was a bit of a jump up 🤣

My first was a BSA Superstar in .22 and it was (and people who still own them know this) STILL IS an outstanding rifle. It was stolen and I really wish I still had it. I also have the '77K in .22 (just having the internals fettled and fitted). I am now also more likely than not getting a .177 PCP as I'm a bit of a .177 concert😄
 
Oh, I also have Weihrauch HW45 Silver Star pistol in .177 as well. Love that with a red dot sight on it.

I really hope you've been enjoying some beautiful weather and been able to get out shooting this summer? What is your preferred springer, and what is your preferred PCP if you have any? I'm curious to know and I ask everyone this question!

:lol: :lol: Plenty of sunshine here this year mate...and lots of complaining its too hot :)

I have a HW97K ...mainly for short range squirrels in the garden ... I am not selective and they (and the rabbits) are also subjected to the shotgun, .17 HMR or the .243 👍

Very few deer where I live so tend to be on the foxes, crows and pigeons over summer and back on the Fallow next month...a tad further afield though 👍

Understood, and I'm glad the weather has been great too. If you are shooting the rabbits with buckasot or birdshot I take it you don't eat them- that there's a long chore, taking all the lead balls out! If it's just vermin control I completely understand it..?

To be fair the .17 HMR is the go to for rabbits and generally all head shot and down the butcher. VHD has wiped a lot out so only the odd outing on some ground that holds a few. When it comes to them in our garden eating the bosses plants its very much a case of vermin control 👍

Welcome If your well used to using and maintaining Decent quality springers in 22 or 17 , the PCP will not be different regards accuracy .
