Reloading Advice

Hi Guys
Hope you're all well.

Can i please ask how you guys record your home reloading data.
I been made aware to keep an accurate record for the FEO to inspect during his visit.

What do you guys use, is it a purchased manual or just a note book

If you are worried, fill his pockets with dead primers or brass.
Never been required of me.

There is no need for you to keep any records at all.
Surely if you have the kit to reload that is all the proof you need. I've never been asked.

Never been asked. They've wanted to see reloading kit to prove I reload but that's all.

Or just keep your receipts for your consumables.

I use a note book and keep receipts for consumables. You won’t find a consistent answer to this as I think depending on your FEO. Easiest thing is to contact your FEO and ask for their expectations

Its always handy anyway to keep notes for your personal reference to look back on to see what works best for you. Ive never been asked in 4 renewals.

As others have said, there is no requirement to record this.

However, as I like to keep tabs on what I’ve been doing in case anything goes ‘Pete Tong’ I use a small A5 sized hard back note book and write the following in for each batch I reload:

Date
Cartridge denomination
Bullet type make & weight
Case make
Primer make & type
Powder weight & type

I have never been asked to prove I reload & never had my ammo counted by an FEO.

If the FEO has made the request I would politely ask him a) why as no requirement and b) what data they require to be recorded
It may be just a number of rounds made. However they (Warwickshire) do have a history of making up their own rules - as said to me by an ex FEO of that force

Hi buddy, Warwickshire seem to be a little strict on some of their suggestions, last recommendation was, you niw need a house alarm as you've now have 10 firearms.

Yes I think it is just how many, to see if its worth keeping it etc

waste of time really.... you only need to shoot 3 times a year to justify (number quoted quite often by Feo's to me) stalking, that could be 3 rounds


if you are at the Game Fair this weekend, I know that some FEO's are at the Show ask them. W.Mercia for certain.

Just wrote some random number in a book. Who knows if you've made it up or not. Writing stuff in a book is no proof you've done anything.

I'm not aware of any legal requirement to log reloaded ammunition for authorities to look at.
The only legal requirement is to have store bought ammunition logged on the licence....for some bizarre unknown reason.

Is it Law, or is it Guildence? I think this is why some forces do what they do. Personally I thought it was Guieldence from the Home Office about the ownership of firearms and explosives? Spent primers are a good way of showing usage in my opinion and they take up very little room with the amount most shoot in the UK. Then keep a jar of the knackered brass, once it becomes unusable.

Over here we have to get a “licence” to purchase powder and primers - I just keep my copies though have never been asked for proof…
