So I need a foxing gun for my ground, I also want an underlever but if I was able to get a calibre that could handle the roe or reds that would also be ideal. My grounds in Scotland so laws are different I think there's some factory ammo that just makes the threshold for legal deer shooting in 30-30. Will police have no issues giving me this calibre for foxing and deer if I applied for it you reckon ? I would happily argue with the police lol because I can't see why not and there's legal ammo available but I still don't wanna get on there bad side

Factory ammo, would likely be fine for roe but nothing bigger, reloading may get you the required velocity for the larger species, depending on the usual loading factors. I'm sure some use a lever action for live quarry but as I own one, it wouldn't be my choice over a bolt action

Hornady Leverevolution ammo 160gr in 30-30 lists MV 2400fps and muzzle energy 2046lbft, which I believe may tick all the boxes.
That said, it certainly wouldn't be my choice of cartridge, especially for foxes. Perhaps you need two guns, the lever action for target?

There is ammo from Hornady legal for deer in Scotland, nah look I really just want an underlever but I left a rifle club I was in and joining another but the wait is killing me and I want an underlever lol. Id have a 22-250 for foxes but as I want underlever exploring other options and the 30-30 seems to come up close and well im sure it'll kill foxes.

it is open, think all licenses in Scotland are open never heard of anyone up here with any conditions etc less its big target calibres

Hmm yeh the 45-70 is what took my fancy originally but seemed to be worse ballistics wise and well it’s probably overkill for foxes so dk if the licensing would like that soo much

Here I just need to scratch the underlever itch I’ve got, can blame the American genes for that one

The 30/30 with 125/130gn bullets are quick. Flat enough for fox over 150yds and aim on it's back for upto 200yds.

Personally I avoid anything heavier than 160gn.
Unless of course you are not going to shoot above 100yds.

I can’t understand the Anti-Lever folks so to speak I used a friends one and it’s got me hooked there soo much fun and well if you like playing pretend cowboys and are a man child then

I have never really formed the cowboy link. Mine never make me feel or reminisce a longing to be a cowboy .
I'm drawn to their handling and svelte build characteristics. One minute you are bringing the rifle up like shotgun, the next you might be taking a rested longish shot.
I honestly think think they are totally misunderstood.
