I have never really formed the cowboy link. Mine never make me feel or reminisce a longing to be a cowboy .
I'm drawn to their handling and svelte build characteristics. One minute you are bringing the rifle up like shotgun, the next you might be taking a rested longish shot.
I honestly think think they are totally misunderstood.

Underlevers are just famous for cowboy movies I guess and yeh probably common as muck back in the Old west days
But what you said is soo true, it’s exactly like pulling up a Shotgun and then you fire a rifle
There just cool different and interesting looking guns to me than a big standard Bolt Action rifle

30-30’s sounding like the ideal calibre anyways, don’t think there’s much 45-70 on offer in the gun shops by me either

Under lever isn't quite correct my friend. The action is cycled via a lever, a cycle that not only cocks and opens the gun but feeds another cartridge from a magazine, an under lever type doesn't really cycle an action, it merely opens an action and or cocks a mechanism.

Have you ever chronographed them Nate? I've heard there ocasionally tough too meet the legal requirements with the available factory ammunition, though saying that I cannot imagine there's very much factory ammunition anyways so almost everyone that has them reloads.

The whole shotgun style shouldering is the reason they peaked my curiosity too, you've seen me I'm not a terribly big person one of the smaller barrelled 30-30s with iron sights seems ideal for sub 75 freehand shots, with practise obviously.

Saying that, bit sad that shotguns arent deer legal here in most circumstances they would fill that niche well.

I've had deer run within yards of me that probably could of been shot, but werent possible due too the ergonomics of the rifle and barrel length, Maybe a small chance that .243 I could shoot freehand but it depends if the scope could be set a little further back what is a lot of faff for maybe a few opportunities a year, would of been nice for the fox that ran out over the road this morning though!

I did years ago mate but can't remember what the velocity was.
I've never been overly concerned about it.
I think the 16" barreled carbines are going to struggle velocity wise and legalities. They still do it though.
The last factory ammo I had was actually very potent, and noticeably so. Much reloading data is tame today.

Do your cops ever turn up with a chronograph to check velocities in the field? Ello, ello, looks like you're somewhat undervelocitied......... better be coming along then.

I looked at getting a marlin dark in 30-30 and didn’t in the end because it couldn’t get above 1700 FT/lbs ME with any load.
It would have been ok for cwd and muntjac but nothing else, and the idea was for it to be a woodland gun for bigger species.
Shame as I liked the rifle if only it had an 18” barrel!!
