What are members' experience of cost of venison £ per lb weight?
  • estate self shot skin on
  • skin off whole carcase
  • butchered chilled
  • butchered vaccuum packed frozen
Any difference by species?

Cheers,

K

Roe skin on £2.50 per kilo
Red skin on £2.40 per kilo
Sika skin on £2.40 per kilo
Fallow skin on £2.20 per kilo

Seems crazy to me that roe is prized above any other species in Scotland, but most are for the European market as the French/Spanish love them.

Prices at the moment with us, this is what we are paying:

Fallow, Munties & any larger species- £2.00 a kilo (skin on).

Roe-£2.50 a kilo (skin on)

Whole bodies tagged, skinned, muslin wrapped & sold at £5.25 a kilo (A 1 graded neck shot only)

The pricing of roe just reflects the export demand for it, it has been as high as £3.25 a kilo & probably will be again May-August I guess.

Roe £2.20 / kg (head and feet off, skin on) this morning at Bambridges, Watton Norfolk.

Mid Shires (Willo Game) 2.20kg collected or 2.40kg if you deliver to them.
Iwcdart you seem to be a bit light on the fallow :?:

One of the big dealers in this area are quoteing 2 prices one for body another for head shot:doh:. Does this not encourage people to be irresponsable when things are are tight as they are at presant?
I know what my views are and I am not happy that stalkers (or shooters more like) are being encouraged to carry on like this for monetary gain. Would a boycott be in order?

What are your thoughts?

Mark

Rather than a boycott a quiet word might be more useful especially if, when it leads to nothing, you ask him in what local newspaper he would like to read the details!

Don't know if a boycott would work, and some people are comfortable taking head shots, but I agree that gamedealers should be discouraged from this practice the one in your area is not the only one there are several now
doing it.

I agree with you on that Mark, not sure if we as individuals can do anything about it though.
I personally would not go for a head/neck shot just to get a higher price for the carcass,

Highland Game were £3 kg last year for bucks over 16kg.

Peterbourgh Game are running vans twice a week up the east coast of Scotland doing pickups, I've been offered £3.50 kg.
