Knives from old files, first go at forging

I believe they used to do the large beef hooks in whale blubber....

Whale-oil-beef-hooked!

Sorry, but someone had to do it!:coat:

Great project! I have heard that really well used railway line is good for making axes and blades, something to do with the repeated pounding by the train wheels...

I would figure as much. I just read the frontis piece telling me why I was banned and how, if I changed the policies of my government I would be allowed to view his site.... someday, perhaps? That golden, knife-making website on the distant horizon! (sigh.) Oh! But the the struggle is the glory!

Yeah. I'll quit my job and get right after that!~Muir

Forge your guns into plough shears and move to England mate! Then you could look at his sight and poke fun at All those Fat Americans and their Freedom they always go on about!

Nah! My father's family was burned out of Scotland a couple of centuries back. (Stealing cattle or some other triviality...) I think I'd better hang around here and oppress the poor some more.~Muir

No offence meant Muir! I had that link book marked from years ago! When I last looked at it it only had good info on making knifes!

That's Ok. No offense taken from your sector. I'm sure the guy makes good knives. It pi$$es me off a little though, I must admit. I wonder if this clown realizes that I'm STILL paying off the tax burden the U.S.'s aide to Indonesia cost us several years ago. Tens upon tens of millions of dollars a day: all from the sweat of the American worker and the taxes we pay. I'd prefer that we kept all of our interests at home, along with our money, but it seems that despite our oppressive doctrines, people still have their hands out.

Enough rant. Sorry. I'm going to find an illiterate, third world undocumented alien to oppress. I'll feel better then.:D~Muir

Ok mate, I bought one made from a file at the midland a few years ago, they did 2 sizes of folder,I bought the smaller one - TBH, if I had gone for the bigger one, would have done for owt. The design opened like a swing blade with the curled file tang used to open it, hrd wood handle. Nice thing will text you a pic when re discovered.

Just won this little coke forge on Fleabay:D Picking it up tomorrow evening from Canvey Island:

Not sure about an anvil because we ebay'd a couple a while ago but I may be able to find some tongs and accesories. We did have a full size forge and waterbath that we scrapped a couple of years ago

I'll have a look tomorrow

Good on you mate, every little helps! Shame about your forge! So many times I've heard similar things have happened, thing sits around not being used, gets scrapped, and along comes the likes of me who'd give their left trigger pinky for it! Hind sight is a B E A Utiful thing:-D
