What do you / would you carry when stalking alone and in a group

Crumbs, I seldom remember to take the key out of the pickup, what with remembering the rifle, bolt, ammo, bins, stick, knife and a bit of rope. Then again I never was in the boyscouts.

I like to see those running folk that need their Isotonic re-hydration containers, for the half hour run and... clearly you're not a walker. With them it's the two poles, you must have TW0 and they must be POLES, not sticks... and I'm not talking about taking a couple of folk from eastern Europe either. I am not actually being sarky here either, truly, it just brings a pleasant smile to my face to see such dedication and preparation. I guess I just envy such people and the effort they put in.

Good effort. Formidable listing but..... no stick?

What about a pull-through?[/QUOTE

You are right Tamus... forgot my quadpods! and yes, a pull through.. missed that too.. (cor... starting to sound like a Monty Python sketch.... so what DID the Romans ever do for us?!)

Please bear in mind when I go stalking I tend to stay out all day, not just a couple of hours in the AM and then the same in the PM... after driving 4 hrs to get there... I'm not gonna miss any possible opportunities!

I can't believe you lot would all baulk at carrying 2kgs on your back? do you not take a roe sack out with you? if so, this lot would be lost somewhere at the bottom of it. I could understand if I started saying I took sleeping bags and tents and stuff, but this little lot to me is basic sensible stuff to carry anytime you're alone in the countryside away from a vehicle?

As per title what do you carry when stalking alone, or what would you carry if you don't stalk alone and what wouldn't you bother with or add if there was more than one of you?

Other than rifle & ammo & Binos obviously!

If moving any distance from vehicle or if I intend to be out all day, my kit is:
  • 30 litre Blackhawk hydration pack (with bladder for water) containing..
  • Basic first aid kit (now containing tourniquet and fast clotting agent!)
  • Emergency shelter (one step up from a space blanket, packs down to the size of 2 packs of cards)
  • Flask/stove/jetboil.. what ever is fit for purpose on that day
  • Fire making kit
  • 3 in 1 coffee sachets
  • couple of emergency high calorie snacks
  • Head torch
  • Torch
  • Main Knife
  • Back up Knife
  • Leatherman
  • Detol wipes
  • small plastic mat to put knives on
  • Latex Gloves
  • a few small cable ties
  • Midge net hat
  • Deer drag and 2 caribiners (then doubles as hoist if I have a suitable branch close by to make the gralloch that bit easier)
  • 1 lightweight flynet
  • PLB
  • Mobile phone
  • Clothing layers / waterproofs as necessary
If I wan't alone, I don't think I would leave anything out but I would add a radio.

If I wasn't going far from vehicle I might not take anything at all!

Sounds a lot but it about 1/3 - 1/2/ fills the backpack and is no bother to carry

Absolutely ZERO phone signal anywhere on my patch!

Sadly not! much worse.... RMP

This seriously explains a lot.

Quadpods!

No smirking in the ranks, laddie.

Bet you just said that with a broad Scottish accident!?

"You..... YES YOU BEHIND THE BIKE SHEDS.......... STAND STILL LADDIE!"

Name the album!

Exactly what use is a pull through on a stalk?

With that kit list in the first post you would need 4 poles, 2 of the eastern european kind to act as sherpas and two wood poles for them to carry all that kit on:D

Crap in muzzle, game over, unless you've a handy pull through... not that I usually remember it, but I try.

Words fail me chaps... 2kgs..... about the same weight as my left breast! hardly much of a hardship is it really... now come on... it isn' is it!

I would...ah, bugger it, who cares what 'I' bring out in the field,,,in fact, I don't think anyone here case if I 'go' out stalking either - LOL

If you get crap in the barrel a pull through is not going to help you much. I think a rod would be more use.

Most of the stalkers I have met tend to be slightly on the large side, except the highland goats. Lazy bunch.

Personally I take:
Rifle + ammo etc
Gloves
Torch
Knife x 2
Sticks
Gloves
and my phone.

I have my first aid kit in the car along with a whole load of other stuff in a bum bag. I never carry it. Having read Stavs post I might get a trauma bandage or 2 for my pocket.

I disagree, having learned the hard way.

A very little rain, snow and/or mud... It doesn't take much to ruin a day that can easily be saved with tape and/or a pullthrough.

If you've tried using your rifle as a crutch then fair enough, your comment is valid(ish) but in that case even a rod might not fix what'll possibly need a recrown. I've never allowed that much crap into a muzzle.

ps. Put electrical tape on the list too... :D ... It holds way better than target patches in our weather.
