W H Smith Petition

Signed and Facebooked to my friends.

Beyond this one issue, surely the censorship of any publication for a legitimate and lawful activity is an enormous erosion of Freedom.

I wonder if WH Smith would support me in the withdrawal of all motoring publications because of the pollution and damage to the environment they cause?

Signed. Custom withdrawn. My small girls love the gundogs in my shooting magazines, but under no circumstances am I happy for them to even glimpse the covers of the other inappropriate publications stocked in most newsagents.
And don't let them say children can't get hold of them. I managed well when I was under 14.

And don't let them say children can't get hold of them. I managed well when I was under 14.

That reminds me of a conversation I had recently with an old friend of mine who also has two little girls. He was complaining about the youths who sat in their car on his street listening to loud music and smoking out of the car windows. "But R****", I answered, "you used to do that, sit in that old Renault 5 of yours smoking out of the window. Not with the music though admittedly". "B###sh1t! I did the boomobox thing too!". "Well how is this any different then?". "It isn't. But now I'm grown up and I don't like it".

I will add my name to the petition but I have already written to then directly to complaine. I had a standard banal answer back which did not address my question, so I have written back again but I probably won't get a reply this time.
My family probably spends a few hundred quid a year in their local store which I have said goes elsewhere if they don't change this ridiculous policy.

So, so they stop selling car magazines to under 17 year olds because that don't have a driving licence?

What about all the gaming mags that feature >18 games? Do they stop selling those to anyone under age?

Do they my *rse... We are a minority that seems to have lost it's voice.

We need CA, BASC etc to pick this up properly, and roll it into a wider agenda

Personally, all my mags are via subscription as it saves a few quid, but a nice by-product is that I never need to darken the door of WHS for anything again...

With democracy comes choice, and I choose not to shop there

For them it's more about the brand image of WHS and consumer goodwill towards them. No-one makes very much money out of print media anymore, it's more of a footfall driver. What they make money from is snacks and soft drinks, stationery and cards. Supermarkets also use the newspaper and magazine space at the front of the store to draw people towards the sandwiches and drinks. So they probably don't stand to lose much financially from this either way of animal rights supporters or shooters decide not to buy any magazines there. Not going there at all and more to the point, spreading the word that you don't trust them anymore, that hurts. That's also why they're being very careful with their email responses. They have received a tonne of them and need a consistent and positive response, which of course means they have to make a policy decision. I don't think they're fobbing us off. That wouldn't be in their interest.

Just had a reply to my response email from the head of customer relations this time. At lest it was not a standard response and I think they are evaluating reaction.
i suggest all that have signed the petition go to their corporate website and submit a direct email to customer services as I did. I think it may have more impact.

I've signed polls and petitions already but... Does anyone know how many annual renewals of membership Animal Aid has?

And... What's BASC membership standing at currently? ... It being an annually renewed membership , in the main, I believe.

I suspect I might wish to bring these relative numbers to the attention of the folk at WHMiffs...

The WHSmiths family used to own the village of Hambledon in Bucks. This is all part of the Hambledon estate that has/had a great herd of Fallow, loads of Muntjac and a good head of Roe. Not to mention a good few Wallabies, yes you heard right. These where controled by the resident stalker and then sold through there farm shop. I believe that they used to shoot a few them selves as well as them making money through the stalker taking clients out as well. Interesting.
