Hardy IV surpressor. Any further feedback?

I have the latest Hardy Gen4 mod on my 270WSM, I had to have the 308 version, I would agree with Danpd that it is not quietest mod in the world, it is definately louder than my old Predator 8, but the 270 is my stalking rifle which places a premium on lightness in my book and it that area in scores very highly, the rifle feels much better balanced, it is also very nicely made.

Hi Anthony

With it on your .270, are you using the larger size of the 2 available? Could be that you're right at the bottom end of the cut off, making it a little louder...

It's all rocket surgery to me, but as I have a 6.5x55, I'll be at the top end of the smaller size mod (reading this back, does any of it make sense???)

Cheers

Hi Ian

Yes I had to have the largest of the sizes as the 270 is just above the 6.5mm cutoff and in my experience with my other rifles a calibre specific mod definately seems to help with the noise reduction, despite what Riflecraft will tell you.

For me the fact that is was a little noisier was easily offset by the lightness, I hated the feel of my rifle with my old Predator mod on, especially when shooting off sticks and it was really top heavy when being carried in the sling, much much better now.

Right, sold to the gent at the back!

Emmett & Stone are getting a visit this afternoon, and one is going on order. I'm no lightweight, but when you add scope & bipod to a rifle with a bl**dy heavy T8 hanging over the front end it just becomes silly...

Thanks for the feedback

Iain, you're welcome to come and have a look and feel of mine first before you part with your hard earned. I'm still waiting for mine two months after paying up front, so be warned that you might wondering a long time whether you have made the choice.

Thanks for the offer. E&S already have mine on order with Riflecraft... No money parted hands just yet fortunately!

I believe there was a hold up with the weight of the last shipment out of NZ, but the kit should be in/near the UK by now

Keep in touch though as you're only 30 mins up the M40 from me...

Thanks

I had a Gunworks reflex mod on my .260 in NZ. Nice and light but not as effective at noise reduction as the MAE which I replaced it with. The concensus among NZ hunters that I have spoken too appears to be that the Hardy 'Dan Can' is good but not the most effective at noise suppression. It appears that with available moderators it's still a trade off between weight and noise reduction.

Try Macleods of Tain...

Bentley @ Riflecraft tells me that they are reselling, but I don't know what stock they have

I have always wondered why cans have a better noise reduction than reflex mods? They always seem to come out best on the independant tests.

I have yet to hear anything quieten a rifle as well as a Jet-Z does, but they are heavy, small but heavy.

The Roedale and the A-TEC CMM-4 both weigh about 220g, in fact the Roedale is less, so if weight is a premium that is the way to go. If longevity is a premium then an SL-5 is the way forward, being stainless it will outlast the Jet-Z (or so I would think). But if money is no object the a Lawrence Titanium moderator will give you all the bragging rights, longevity and lightness you could want. None as yet, to my knowledge, has beaten the Jet-Z in noise reduction test though.

And as the Hardy is aluminium, why not go for the aluminium CMM-4 which is lighter?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME....... Turns out the Hardy has been with E&S for a few days, and I got my mitts on it on my birthday yesterday. Cracking little mod (relative to the T8 brick), and completely changes the balance of the rifle. Not heard it yet, but will zero it in the field at the end of the month.

Tried both the 6.5 version and 30 cal side by side this afternoon on a 6.5x284 and can confirm the cal specific one was considerably quieter and not much different than a Maxim according to all the parties present. The 30 cal however made everyones ears ring

That's a relief! I'm now glad I changed my order to a 6.5mm version.
However, I'm still going to have to wait a long time for it as mine was missed on the last shipment, and Riflecraft have asked me to ring back at the end of this month. I wonder if a three month wait is some kind of record?

What's the thread on your rifle? If 1/2" unf x20, then more than happy for you to bolt mine on the end and pop a few rounds through...

Thanks Iain for your kind offer, but mine is the standard weight Sako M14x1.
Cheers,
Matt.

Matt, no problem.
With that thread, spk to WSM as I put him onto Macleods of Tain when looking for the same... Don't know if they (or he) have stock or not, but it might be quicker

Matt

You'll be closer adding another month on that wait by the time you get one

Next shipment is estimated at three weeks away

Thanks for the updates.
I suspected it will be quite a while until I get my mod, but I've already paid up front and refunding and reordering will be a pain in the bum. I'll hang tight and update this thread when it finally does show up.

Matt. It looks like a cracking bit on the end of the Sako, but I have to wait until the end of the month to check zero and see what it sounds like. Hopefully yours will have rocked up by then as well.

As they said to Gillian Taylforth on the motorway slip road, "chin up"...

Keep us posted mate
