What would you say is required for a noob stalkers kit?

Must have bit of kit most of you have missed........toilet paper. Always have this and needed it at 7am this morning out on a stalk in the woods.........also good for wiping misty optics..

Very true.
An Irish friends nether end seems to be stimulated by the smell of pine trees and one morning when he was seeking Sika he was taken short and dropped his keks for his daily constitutional.
He had got nicely started when a useful Sika stag appeared along the ride, after reaching for his rifle and getting a kneeling shot from behind his tree he dropped the stag and then found that he had knelt in his own deposit.
Served him right for being disrespectful to another creature !

HWH.

bog roll?

in emergency situations cut you undies off and utilise cutting strips as you need, always plenty of material left over for the follow up plop :D.

just keep it simple after all your going stalking which consists of spoting deer shooting them gralloching them and geting them off the ground thats it when i 1st started stalking all i took was my rifle, sticks and a knife it wasnt ideal but i still shot deer so if your on a budget thats all you need and in time you can just upgrade your kit you really dont need half the kit you put on your list just to get started infact you point blank just dont need half the stuff on your list

in honesty, past you basic clothing. You just need basic stalking skills, a reliably accurate rifle and appropriate ammo, bins, knife and sticks to actually got and have a good chance. Not forgetting your mobile phone  how many forgot that essential bit of kit?!

Then you need to think about what's in your car?

A plastic sheet for putting the deer on at a minimum, change of comfy clothes if you end up bloody or wet, basic first aid stuff and some munch with something to drink. Make sure your fac and stalking permission is handy or a copy and some wipes, water to wash down and a mini bottle of hand sanitiser is a good idea before you start munching sarnies!

Thanks again guys for the input it'll be interesting to see what I use, or not, now I've got the free stalks with Malc to look forward to!!

Did you have a play with a bino harness? I have one that I have never used that I will send you, on the condition that if you don't get on with it you pass it on to a deserving cause.

I stalk with a rifle, binos, knife, stick, dog, kitkat and bottle of juice. . . . To hell with all the other crap.

id also recommend a spare pair of dry socks , its amazing how much better you feel after a sodden day on the hill to change into a new pair of socks!

For smaller deer I stick a couple of S hooks in my pocket for a suspended gralloch. Really easy to do and makes the job much cleaner.

That's very kind mate thanks I never got round to it and that's a fair condition. If it works for me I'll chuck some dosh towards H4H and I'll pay postage obviously. I'll PM my details,

Cheers

Cheers

If im going stalking for a morning or an evening all i take is my rifle, ammo, sticks, binos, knife, suitable clothes and a bit of string. Maybe take a bit more if i'm gona be out all day on the hill but generally go as light as possible.

+ 1. Keep it simple, you're stalking not on a survival weekend.

one thing worth remembering is dont go out and buy all the most expensive kit i brought a box of morla orange gralloch knifes worked out at about £9 each there dishwasher safe and plenty sharp enough, got a bergan(backpack) big enough for muntys/roe and made a drag sheet from a tarpolin and some rope for anything bigger if needed
to hang small deer to gralloch just punch two holes in legs (bit your going to discard anyhow, bellow joint) and put a stick in and hang from a tree job done the only thing i spent biggish money on apart from rifle/ scope was a good set of sticks everything else can be done on a budget or free
id spend any spare cash on training or guided stalks

Righto guys I'm trying to get myself sorted with various basic gear after reading about what is required in particular for stalking.

Before I get flamed I don't mind (and have no shame!) admitting that I am trying to get myself sorted as cheaply as possible for starters coz money is tight! Over time I'd like some better, more expensive gear but that can wait.

What does your stalking kit consist of? Any items that you carry that are essential and others that are just 'handy'?

I'm thinking along the lines of the list below but am I over complicating things?

Roe sack
Small 1st aid kit
Small torch &/or head torch ( I have a cree)
Fixed blade knife with easy clean handle (I have various Frost, Mora, etc)
Sharpening stone (I have a DC4 whetstone)
Deer call (I have a Buttolo)
Small fold up waterproof mat
Bullet pouch
Bino's on harness
Latex gloves and tissues/wipes
Water bottle & purification tablets
Small pair pruning snips
Iphone
Shooting sticks
Boresnake

I have a fair bit of shooting related stuff already but am missing the following if anyone has anything cheap and cheerful knocking around for sale?

Roe sack
Bullet pouch (in pocket or stock mounted)
Binocular harness so bino's sit on my chest better

Cheers

Stratts

PS
After reading my list I reckon it would be a good kit to have for walked up and bunny shooting too!!

I had the exact same question when I started (just over a year ago) and I bought an awful lot of stuff I have not needed so far. In all honesty, from the list you have I would only get/use:

Small torch &/or head torch ( I have a cree)
Fixed blade knife with easy clean handle (I have various Frost, Mora, etc)
Bino's on harness
Latex gloves and tissues/wipes
Shooting sticks
Boresnake

Add to that the obvious (gun, ammo, decent scope, decent clothing and boots) and off you go. I know I am only a novice like yourself, but do not make the same mistake with me and buy a lot of stuff that costs money and weighs you down when you are out stalking.

My two pence, anyway!

Thanks guys I'm starting to get a feel for the kit needed and luckily most of it I've acquired cheaply over the years bunny bashing!

One thing I might treat meself to is the new Napier Apex Predator waist belt come game sack jobbie, coz I needed a new game bag and roe sack so should work out about the same,

Cheers
