Just spoke to BDS. Said along time ago I'd never give them anymore of my money and the conversation reafirms that.
1x shooting test 1x safety test and sit at a desk and answer multiple choice questions ..........£160. I did this with them 15 years ago and passed 1st time then. Not again

think that seems to be the going rate just now teyhan. my friend booked a level one course along with training day and its £260 all in - £100 for training day and £160 for test the following week.

Your choice mate, but you'll pay similar for it wherever you go. Just thought it might be fairly local and soon. Once you have to travel and pay accommodation you may find that £160 is actually quite cheap!!

Don't get me wrong, it was local enough and I'd have swallowed my pride but they said they needed 3 weeks to process the paperwork and wouldn't even entertain the idea

Three weeks to mark and verify the papers is reasonably quick - and as per previous, £160 the going rate for assessment only - you need to take into account the registration fee is a significant part of that figure.
Worth a ring round the usual suspects in the area to see when their next course/assessment is.

The BDS level 1 is £175 that's for the
DD cd sent out to you to study at home
then you do the two days for shooting
And safety then the assessment on the
last day. Doing it in July

No not three weeks to mark the papers, three weeks to process my application to be on the course

Hi Teyhan,
What is the benefit of re taking the course, I understood it to be valid for life or am I missing something ?
Thanks

Many years ago I took the NSCC and then the Advanced NSCC. The advanced NSCC was way more in depth than even DSC2. When I took my Advanced NSCC part of rhe course package was compulsory accomodation, even though I only lived a short way away. The course`back in the mid 90's was about £3-400 I did the course even though at that time I could little afford it.
Imagine sitting the current DSC2 with it's associated cost only to be told at the end that they were bringing out a new course and that if you wanted to be registered for that then they would want more £xxx and that the old course was no longer valid.
Now some people say you had X amount of years to trade in your old certificate and pay for the new one. Well I never heard that before it was too late. I don't read the sporting press and I swear I never ever heard it. They didn't even write to me.
It was at that time that IMO the BDS changed from being an organisation dedicated to deer welfare to an organisation that was more commercially based. I had been a supporter of theirs up until that moment and it was then that I said I'd never give them anymore of my money.
Sorry it's a little long winded and a little political but all I can say is do not believe that any qualification ( which it is not ) which is issued by any private company is ever going to be valid for life. When the cash cow of DSC1 and DSC2 start to wain then they WILL devise another way to take your money.
RANT OVER

Teyhan sorry to here of your predicament that must be a right kick in the nut's when you have booked something in then last minuet get told its off. Try BASC they wont let you down.

Still puzzled at why you want to take it again. If you did GMH course why worry?

GMH??
In my opinion DSC1 & DSC2 will become mandatory in the not too distant future
As well as this, I am not really doing very much commercial stalking now and would like to tender for FC or Tilhill contracts for my own personal enjoyment. I would also like to become an AW
Like the old thread about the several stages of fishing/hunting, I've done all of them and would like to settle into the last one

Hi Teyhan,

Give me a call if you would like to tag onto one of our DSC1 assessment days. We're running two in May, one at Southdowns Gun Club, and one at our Hampshire base.

We won't charge you anything, so all you'd have to cover is BASC's/DMQ's bit.

Give me a shout on 07707 118612.

Regards,

Mike.
