Ruger 10/22 problems

No standard 10/22 is that inaccurate unless something is very seriously wrong.
Why shim the rail? The standard rail while not the best will or should ensure that your scope is lined up without any tinkering. If you had a problem you should have taken it back to the shop and got them to sort it out.
Forget about ammo problems if this is as bad as you say it is not ammo that is causing the problem.
Forget about makers or importers warranties. You bought the rifle from a RFD, he is the one who you have a contract with and he has to supply goods of merchantable quality.

Personally I think that the scope rail isn't screwed down correctly and also as has already been suggested take the moderator off to start with, as at least that should remove one possible variable when zeroing.

10-22's are very easy to strip , it should be stripped carefully and reassembled carefully , to get the groups you are getting there is something fundamentally wrong with the rifle !

I have just rung the shop I bought it from and a woman answered the phone I politely said I bought the gun on Saturday and I can't get a decent grouping from it she said just a minute then said to some one else "it's him with the 10/22 he's still moaning" I then heard a reply of " ho he's not still moaning" then a bloke came on the phone then i politely said I am not moaning but there is something wrong with the gun he said to bring it back and they will get a gunsmith to look at it.
I have also rung Viking arms the importer who said it sounds like a dodgy barrel and if I send it to them they will sort it under warranty. They are not a lot further away from me than the shop so I don't know what to do now.
I am not impressed with the attitude the shop had and before the start saying things they need to remember to put phone on mute.

take the rifle back to the gunshop and demand your money back right now , get a receipt from them , get the slot reopened and buy from somewhere else ! 10-22's are very common so just buy from someone else , simple!

I have owned a few over the years and muir is correct remove the barrel band and check again. However I have know this problem before and it was the v block under the barrel loose. Removed the screws and lock tight them and resolved the problem.

take it back feller get your cash back and report the s/number to importer as i bet the shop will resell it no with no repairs done !!!!!!! 14" at any short range is sh** waiting to happen  . sounds like you have a crap dealer your way what's his trade name !!

In all probability it's something very simple and easily rectified after all these rifles are fairly basic. You just haven't spotted what the problem is yet.
Don't start messing around with it and don't get into dealing with the importers your contract is with the RFD that you bought the rifle off, it's their problem and they can rectify the situation to your satisfaction even if that is refunding you and putting you back to the situation you started from. Their attitude doesn't seem quite right does it.

This, or the barrel is not clamped correctly would be my guess.

Neil. :)

just my opinion.

clamp it in a vice and keep going until you a blue in the face and have blood dripping from your swollen hands,

i have had 2 of these over the years and would not give anyone one of these confounded items of junk,

take it back and get a bolt action cz, built to last and will out shoot this ruger cr@p.

make sure you get your money back.

bob.

but why O why do we have to spend money on something that should do what its ment to out the box,

I have seen people spend tons of dosh on this thing for years i would not use one as a door stop for fear of it failing to do that correctly.

total pants and a waste of money,

if you want to put your hard earned cash/time to a better use send it/give it to a charity of your choice and do some good with it,

bob.

ps: if i was to tell it like it is i would be in a world of pain.

Lol exactly my thoughts bob the same as buying a Remington them spending another 500 to get it to shoot right!

in fairness some of the models shoot well , the target for example but I do understand your frustration because I used to own land rovers !

quite right bob it has to be CZ Just retro fitted a thumbhole stock on mine View attachment 33790 View attachment 33791 three at 70 mts old girl is still a shooter on sons air gun target!

nice one paul

I am sorry if my reply to some seems harsh but sometimes it has to be said, I have had more cz rifles than there is soft muck and they shoot very well and will out last me, a semi auto 22lr is in my mind a waste of time unless you live in the usa, ammo is as cheap as chips (crisps that is boy) and they have more rifle ranges then we have drive through takeaway food places. and the fact that they just like to pull the trigger means it can shoot like sh*t and it does not matter they will still have a grin on their faces.

Returning the gun for a refund does not seem to be an option as I have to let them try to repair it first. I am going to take it to Viking arms myself but with the understanding that if it costs anything then the shop I bought it from will pay. I think that the importer will have more experience with repairs to 10/22 than a gunsmith. Viking arms seem very good to deal with and were very help full, and said that they would repair and then test the rifle on a range to make sure it was right.I have just tried cycling the the bolt without firing then checked the bullet heads most had some damage to them some just bashed on the side and some with a piece sheared of the nose.
I will update with the outcome

i think syss might disagree and they would be my go to place for 10-22 advice?

Thats were I would like to go but they are not one of the options. But I think the importer will be in a better position than a normal gunsmith to sort it out.
