Merino base layer

Cheers guys, But the athletic fit bit worries me!:norty:

It needs to be hugging to be warm. Loose flappy bits will hold cold wetness. It's underwear, so not an issue.

NB - Since I found wool (again) I have stopped chucking away old sweaters. Those knackered old thin v-necks make fantastic underlayers.

Just back in from a shopping trip

I noticed that ALDI have some Merino base layers, plus cycling jerseys, etc.
The base layers are approx £15.99 per item, though I did not notice what the wool content was.

May be worth further investigation

Mrs Finnbear visited Marks & had a look at the sizings, declaring XL will suffice, so she will be collecting my on line order, on Monday, Socks, Long Johns, & Top.

I'm a big fan of merino, got rid of most of my T-shirts and bought some merino ones instead. I'm partial to the Howies t-shirts but most of my other merino stuff is from NZ Merino Wool Baselayers, Midlayers accessories. Genuinely New Zealand-made for Chocolate Fish, the Performance Merino Specialists It's absolutely the best quality merino you can get, produced and manufactured in New Zealand rather than China and the people who run Chocolate Fish have fabulous customer service. It's a couple and when you call them you speak directly to the owners. I've no connection to the company but am just a very satisfied customer. I work outdoors most of the time (currently on night shifts outdoors) and I dress pretty much head to foot in their gear. It also doesn't look typically 'sporty' which I like too. They merino and possum blends are amazingly warm.

I've been usig the Merino underwear sold by Aldi for two winters. Very pleased with it. I sometimes use an Aldi T shirt style + a Decathlon long sleeved Merino T shirt. Great combination.

I use Merino wool all year round and most of the stuff I have now is from Rohan. I try to buy it when it is 'on offer' as it is not cheap. I have Smartwool too. Just wish I had 'cottoned on' to wool years ago!

The Costco socks are superb. I wash mine on a wool wash and let them dry naturally rather than putting them in the dryer. Excellent value for money!

Thanks to all who commented on their experiences regards under layers for cold hunt stands, my recent trip to the Boar hunts gave excellent results from the M&S offerings, although I did get a little nip here & there during minus 8/10 periods, (striking through to my shoulder blades)... socks were brilliant allied to the Lundhags:cool:.

Decathlon do a whole set for £45.
when on board ship. It was -5 last night in the wind!

That smell of woodsmoke tends to take me lots of different places!,... every house we saw, or stayed in, had massive stocks of firewood, Mike informed us it may be breaking a law in Germany to sell un seasoned firewood?

Well.
When the roof on the old FSW workshop was lost to the winds. 6 weeks a ago. We had to move(planned for after Christmas).
The new work shop has the same wood burner that we have at home!
To say that work shop is toastie. Is a understatement. The only problem is the lack of boyds/ richard microfit ply wood stocks to feed it!

Just joking!

Steve

I've got Icebreaker 200, a couple of smart wool items and an acteryx top.

All are good for sitting out in hides or seats for long periods.

The Icebreaker is as good as anything and sized to fit normal people...

well it fits me ok..

Have to say that a decent pair of wool or tech socks and a neck warmer / hat are the key to staying warm for long period of immobility,,
