Duck pond

if your pond freezes foxes eat call ducks . Feed it little and often , bucket full a day , if you over feed they can come any time if theres just enough you get a quick early flight as the duck race for food . Mallard can reach 9inches for food so dont worry about it floating , wheats or barley will do which evers cheapest . Go down early enough one evening and count them in from a distance . Put any hides up now , pallets wired to posts will do with some brash on them , or plant some willow wands around them and keep the tops pinched out

New problem how do I get the ducks off during the day there was approx 30-35 duck on it in the afternoon any ideas

They should be chased off during the day, and fed about an hour before sunset. that way they can feed and theres none left by morning.

check it in the morning , little and often is best so they race to be first there , too much and theyll sit there all day . If your ponds in a wood or real secluded spot your duck may stay all day thats the only time you should put tem off every morning but dont shoot at them . Count them in in the evening , best shoot some soon seasons nearly over . Put a little food in through the close season to keep interest and youll have a stronger flight next year

Yes little and often treat them mean and keep them keen. However now all to pot as so much flooded ground so ducks likely to be on flooded grass etc eating all the worms and alike. If so pray for frost but looks very unlikely at present.

Also you have only 5 weeks left so you might have to shoot a few in the day if you need to.

Feed shallow magins with wheat and/or barley and they should find it sooner or later. Make sure there are no preditors like mink around as they wont feel comfortable hanging around much.
