Is .243 big enough???

I don't think I have ever check my zero after using a bore snake .I only do that after a good scrub though and then it might be fractionally out. I thought that the idea was that the brush loosens the crap and the snake the cleans behind it ????

i dont have to check zero, but a boresnake copper brush disturbs and can cause a flyer which might not go in the same hole as the rest of the bullets. For your average stalker this doesnt matter, for me it does.

some people say that there riffle nonly shoot thight groups on a clean barrle ,never been sure on this .the chap a riffle craft told me to clean it though after every shot but alot of people say just bore snake after i use it then decopper after you have put a few though it 30 ? i tend to snake up to about 10 then put a few patches though as i belive it the carbon that kills your barrle and was told not to let it build up ,Thats what i was told ,I dont seem to have to much of a problem with my bullets going were i want them.

if you want that first shot to go exactly where you want then the only way is with a clean bore , anything else is just guessing that the fouling is the same as your last shot ?

And thats proper clean, not boresnake clean, but cleaner than a clean thing clean.. Cleaned the AI last night, very theraputic. Butchs' boreshine followed by meths, hmmmmmm

just plug the bore with the barrel vertical , fill it with copper solvent ,,,,,,, and wait!

I've been watching this thread closely, especially after returning back to the sport after a couple of years off, anyway off to the gunshop I went and came home with a nice Browning A bolt Medallion in .243 topped with A Docter 8x56 illuminated, perfect I thought it'll do me for foxing and deer, then after reading this thread I started to question my choice on the .243 and after a few choice words from the wife I've decided to use it for foxing and small deer up to Roe and stuck a variation in for a 270 and picked up a lovely Euro bolt up from a member on here, so if anything this thread has helped me bag a cracking 270,wheather I'll need it or not is another question, so what I'm saying is , is .243 big enough

Barrel should be cleaned once a year whether it needs it or not, must admit I sometimes forget.

here's one to give you all sleepless nights..
what if the level of clean you are giving it from cleaning to cleaning is actually a variable, leaving slightly different surface to the bore or not taking absolutely all the copper/carbon out.......... {aaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhhhh...not another variable!??!}

unless you can clean the barrel and put the next shot through the hole of a previous shot taken from a clean barrel on the same target then you really should get too excited about whether the bore is exactly the same condition as the previous shot!!

Still clanking along at a steady pace the good old .243 thread ! nothing ever changes the .243 kickers and the defenders locked in dispute again and again and again on and on and on !
Ask yourself this if you were marooned on a desert island with mythical iron plated animals called deer would you be glad of your .243 ? yes and would you go hungry ? I don't think so.
Lot of fashion police on these forums me included to a certain degree who think the in fashion calibres are the dog's and the mundane common calibres are less than worthy and I bet if you knew what a lot of the .243 kickers actual deer cull was you would get an eye opener that's if they shoot any at all and if they do they certainly havn't been using a .243 much or they would have no reason to say the humble girly calibre wasnt quite up to the job.
I use mine a lot ok I maybe havnt been stalking for decades like my peers on here but in the years I have my girly gun killed a hell of a lot lot of deer infact the only species it hasn't killed is a sika because iv never seen one in the flesh. if you don't have massive lowland reds on your land where from my experience then maybe there are better calibres to go for then any thing else with maybe exeption of sika stick some 85gn partitions in and you will be fine fella trust me and carcass damage will be at minimum.

good point but surely the only sure way of consistency is with a clean bore ? anything else is a variable ?
