Define "Stalking Rifle"

have to agree ,but perhaps the question should be DEFINE STALKER as a lot of people dont stalk in the true sense of the word but would be more at home with one of the afformentioned sniper rifles to satisfy their obsession for long range pot shots they are so intent on taking.

superb concept , but I had one in 308 and could never get it to shoot consistently , like anywhere within 6" of the aim point at 100m with the first shot and totally not predictable ! I so wanted to love it because it was about the perfect stalking rifle but I just couldn't see past the accuracy issues?

It's long gone now so no point in advising me to send it back lol!

Lol! Mine put two PPU in the same hole and one very close on our 80y target in Scotchland (I know all internet rifles do this but mine actually did ;) :D )

Deer stalking involves locating your deer and using field craft skills to reduce the distance to a point where the shot should be a formality. Camping to ambush an unlucky deer whether that's blinds, high seats or sat on a nice spot where you know the deer is likely to walk out is hunting.

People get a bit upset at differentiating between 'hunting' when they consider it 'stalking' but however the common enjoyment for most people is simply beating the deer. Many less able people might not be able to walk far and so use high seats primarily but we would all agree that they are 'deer stalkers' even if they can't actively stalk as such.

and this distance varies for people of different skills , and there lies the root of a lot internet dummy spitting !

stalking is one of the skills and techniques employed in the art of killing deer.
others skills and techniques are available..

When you see bowhunters stalking and taking wild sheep, goats, bears and boar on the ground, or calling in deer, turkey or predators to their blind, at 10 to 30 yards, you have to admit that most shots taken with a rifle could have been done much closer, with a little stalking.

I enjoy hunting with a bow and a handgun. It sharpens the skills. The same is true for going out intentionally with a Marlin .30-30 or a Mannlicher carbine and no scope. It will take a standing deer at 300 yards, but the objective that day is to see if I can spot and slip up on, or around and ambush, my quarry at less than 100 yards. The rifle is so light, I almost don't notice it in my hands or on my shoulder, so my focus is on the woods.

Agreed - I swear the b*ggers climb trees
I had a butchery demonstration to do last weekend I was butchering and cooking a muntjac do you think I could get one ,it took a week to get one .I do love stalking though the thick undergrowth and just catching that orange flash in the bins ,I think they have a real character to them

Not so much now the cover is up but I honestly believe the best way to foot stalk Muntjac is to quietly 'bump' them then freeze! Rarely will they go far and you now at least have one in sight!

At least that's my excuse anyway

There's one in a wood near to me ,every time I go in early in the morning she hide under a Bush near the building you can almost step on her before she runs of letting the whole wood know I have arrived by braking for about ,10 mins ,she never stops a gives me a look back she just runs and dose not stop .in fact not that Manny that I bump stop they always seem to run off and the start to break when they think they are safe .it can take an hour to move a 100 yards sometimes
