Re the above, here is a perfectly serious question.
The Darien scheme would have Ruined Scotland financially, correction it Did ruin Scotland financially but England basically sorted it.
OK it cost us our independence but what price independence. That is still a valid question today.
The recession in 2007 was and still is, the worst since the 1920's.
If Scotland had not been part of the Union it would have been sunk as effectively as a rowing boat hitting a mine.
It's often said that those who don't learn from history are condemned to relive it.
The question is this....
Have we not learned from history ... is twice not enough for us ?.
6pointer....bogtrotter or anyone from the Yes side care to comment ?
How can u state that above as if it would be a fact. It's all if's and but's there is no waying of knowing
I dunno how old u are and bad as the reccesion was generally people have never had it so good, only have to look on here at the price of high end rifles/optics etc which are effectively a luxory itiem for most, in fact the boys that usually work them generally have fairly cheap/averagey type stuff.
Yes time have been hard but it has not stopped the vast % of population from still having fancy phones massive tv's, sky and half decent cars.
My old boss is only 65 odd and when he was growing up as a kid in a rural area like many on here i'm sure was pretty much a subsistance living making there own butter and cheese from the cow they had etc, living in old farm cottages with very little heating, walking miles to school etc. When he was older they used to bike miles to all the village halls for dances/boules etc
My mates dad also about that age group was a painter and can mind when he worked as a boy u only got 2 days holidays at christmas and got to pick wether u wanted them at christmas or new year and used to work every sat as normal plus all the jobing on the side. Tradesmen just aren't doing that now as they don't need to to earn a wage
Eire is still clinging on just on the waterline is it not? I think Iceland has recovered and is thriving again. Both small countries that were hit hard
Some of the larger european countries are still strugglin and USA is still in a bad way so size does not guarantee anything
PF the bottom line is there are very few actual 'FACTS' out there, yes u may be passing a lot of stuff off as facts but all sorts of things could change and the truth is somewhere nearer the middle, far too many hidden ageda's out there
