The BiG NO has been stopped by the Scottish Government

I don,t think the welsh want independence, we are not that stupid, the majority did not want the assembly.

Quite right. Only 25.1% of Welsh voters voted for a Welsh Assembly, the lesson being if you don't vote you have no right of complaint about what you get.

The second point is that the Scottish vote is essentially about reversing the 1703 Act of Union, there is no similar Act to reverse in Wales.

i think whatever the result there may be a review of how the Westminster government works, there is a lot of merit in arguments that English elected representatives should not be determining policy in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, and vice versa. We may end up with Westminster just looking after truly national and international issues and devolve all domestic matters to regionally based legislatures.

The other consequence of a Yes vote is quite likely to result in a long wait for another Labour government in Westminster as about 40 MPs would be lost with Scotland and next year's General Election ought to be delayed in that event so that no Scottish MPs can be elected.

why do you perceive that the poll tax was worse for Scotland than the rest of the uk? Ok you got the poll tax first but someone somewhere had to. We all got it later on from what I recall. I'm not Scottish and will not be voting but I wouldn't trust an idealist with no grip of reality who is spouting unbelievably optimistic rhetoric. There is a massive number of things that must be negotiated on behalf of independent Scotland which will almost certainly end up with compromise rather than everyone giving Salmond what he asks for. I am truly worried for Scotland on two fronts, first that the Yes promises will fall well short of the mark and secondly that the population has become substantially divided

+1 as I have said before Salmond just wants to go down in the History Books. But at what COST to Scotland if it is a yes vote.

Jimbo

I must admit to getting a wee bit excited about the referendum every were I go I can see YES and No fliers ,windows all over Glasgow with bright blue stickers the saltire has emerged all over the central belt

Sadly it would seem that some are not interested in the future of Scotland at all.....they are ignoring fact and evidence, voting yes just to get back at the tories for some imagined historical injustice....bizarre.

and you really think that matters i think you neeed to get a grip she'll never die and long as theres a tory pary up here

That's so utterly stupid that words need to be invented to deal with it. Everyone has a democratic right to vote for who they feel is right although what you're saying is that Tory voters and the party presence in Scotland are to be removed altogether which basically promotes Salmond'd dictatorship...

priceless

But that's what the Yes vote people seem to want. 'Democracy' to them means that you get a choice, but ONLY of socialist governments. So an independent Scotland will choose between the ludicrous jam tomorrow spending and welfare promises of a socialist SNP or equally ludicrous (maybe even more so) promises from New-Born-Again-Labour-Scotland which may well be more like Old-Old Labour (like near communist Labour).

So then EVERYBODY in Scotland will be happy a few Tory voting fascists aside, (and they can FO south of the border as they won't be needed or wanted), Jim Sillars and his ilk will have their 'day of reckoning' with big business, and it'll be a people's paradise.

Living in Northern Ireland I can offer the voters of Scotland what I feel are 2 very important pieces of advice....

1) Whether you vote Yes or No it is important to make sure you actually vote.

2) Please don't vote for reasons based in the past. Historic events can never be changed. Vote on how you truly believe the outcome will affect you and your family.

The second point has still to be learnt in this province with tribal politics the order of the day. Trust me-this doesn't work.

FNF
