Non-waterproof stalking trousers

The weather has to be fairly brutal for me to resort to waterproof trousers for the same reasons as you gave. Tried lots of makes and models including some of the makes mentioned, the most comfortable I’ve had have been the deerhunter rogaland with the stretch panels.

Fjallraven Vidda Pro Trousers are tough and quiet. As others have said, long johns are the answer if it's chilly - and shell trousers plus long johns makes for more versatility than thicker trousers.

Having said that, I think that Fjallraven clothing is crazily overpriced for what it is - it's just polycotton, and that's available much cheaper elsewhere. You could buy 5 pairs of these (which look quite decent) for the same price as a pair of the Fjallravens.

Loads of recommendations on here for waterproof stalking trousers but I'm looking for some reasonably warm (regular UK winter, not arctic!) stalking pants with no membrane in them. I've got various pairs of Seeland cargo style which are nice and quite, fit well and seem to wear ok but they always have a crappy membrane in them which isn't waterproof for long and has poor breathability (sweaty as hell, especially when worn under waterproofs). If it's wet or I'm crawling around I'll put decent waterproofs over the top.

Any suggestions?
I have 3 pairs of Fjallraven Vida Pro which are my go to. If it’s close to 0 or below I wear Kuiu attack pants.

How are these sized Rob? Do you need to go up a size like the Harkila trousers? I find most European trousers are a size to small for me.

Percussion, Solognac are my go to trousers very shower resistant. About 40 quid for Percussion and depending on Decathlon sales 20 to 30 for Solognac.
But in the warm of summer il just use Cargo trousers. 10 to 20 quid .

Thanks folks - going to give some of those percussion ones a go. What's the sizing like - do I need to go up or down on the waist at all?

Many years ago, I had two pairs of moleskin trousers made in heavy weight mole skin with double knees and seats. They were also high backed.. one pair is nearly worn out the other pair, OK? I wore them for all my summer and winter stalking. The problem is that I must have a damp wardrobe, and they have shrunk so no longer fit. The matching vests with large bellow pockets I still wear when I'm feeding the ducks or in the forest on milder days

Damm - only just seen!

I alternate between 2 sets of Harkila - the Gortex Pro's for hard wet stalking and the Ingels (1101147) for Summer, dry conditions. The latter, available in various leg length like the Pros have been outstanding! Sadly, I think they are discontinued now although I see some are coming up in vintage outlets on the www - you might be able to get a bargain there! They are also in Harkila's vetted vintage outlet:

(and search for Ingels)

Aotearoa New Zealand has endemic ticks. This means they are found here, and nowhere else in the world. These species are host-specific and infest mainly birds. Endemic ticks generally do not spread disease to people.
Just found this.

So perhaps this is why no one here understands my saying “ like a tick on a pigs back” usually describing the the bodily proportions of certain people.
Obviously they will never understand “having a throat like a badgers arm pit”
Mind you my favourite was told to me by a Aussie, when he was hungry “I could suck the crutch out of a low flying duck”

Ufpro - hands down,
You can buy thermal liners for them.

I havnt had a pair of fjællræven that havent ripped in the crotch.

If it were rich i would look at the norrøna kvinnherad wool.

I just use ordinary cotton work trousers, got myself some good quality Pulsarrail orange ones, work just fine as deer see it as brown I understand, work well sweat free, comfortanble, plenty of pockets, great in the summer.

I have never failed to rip the crotch on any trousers I use. Mainly use Harkila Pro in winter, ripped, Use harkil scandinavian in more moderate whether , ripper crotch, the Pulsarrail, ripped, some might say I have big B$$$$, nothing survives, but its all just better ventilation!

Fjallraven, I think they’re fairly accurate, I’ve not had to order a size up.
The Kuiu I had to go up one waist size.

I really rate these:

You can wear some thermals underneath if it's cold or they do a warm microfleece lined version:

They are reasonably hardwaring and very good value for money.
Ihave1 pair of each of these, the lined pair about 4 years old the lightweight only 2 years old.

There hard wearing (for the price) comfy and wash easily.

I might replace the lined pair next month if there’s a good deal at the Shot Show 👍
