Wanted: High End SxS

I have an Alex Henry from 1911 or 12, I'd have to check. Heavily right hand cast. Ill need to check LOP. I think it's 14.5. Beautiful wood.

Fancy a Beretta silver hawk sxs straight hand with game recoil pad, still have wooden one, choked 1/4 & half, steel proofed 14 3/4" stock, comes in hard case, looks like an English box lock, has the advantage of turning off the ejectors for walked up shooting, a modern sxs that will take steel, 3" chambered as well

I'm sure tasteful extensions can be done 😅

Honestly though, I had this chat with another good friend of mine (who coincidentally recently bought a pair of Edwinson Greens). Both are still with their original stocks and still about a ½-¾ of an inch too short for either of us. Both of us aren't exactly tall either at about 5'7".

A naturally long stocked old side by side seems to be a very, very rare beastie. And anyone wanting something even close to 15"+ would probably be looking at guns that have already been extended or getting them extended themselves...

Yes, it's definitely a case of people were definitely smaller stature back in the day. My current sxs is a cheap boxlock at 14.5", which means it flaps about bit with my 6ft+ frame!

I'm guessing it would be 2 1/2 chambers?

Hello, Chap i know was thinking to sell his pair of AYA no 2s for about a £1000 , Not quite consecutive numbers
Ah that's where my recalibration started, I tried a #2 and decided it was quite nice; but want to go one beyond with a #1!

For interest though, could you PM the details?

Hello, He only mentioned when on a pheasant shoot beating, I am sure they have 2 3/4 inch chambers like all AYAs ??

W W Greener 16 bore 1936 with rare 30” barrels and 2 3/4 chambers. Reproofed not sure of stock but can measure

Looks a nice gun, but I'm after a 12g!
everyone is just guessing. Can you give a bit more detail about what you are after?
- stock length in inches
- cast
- chamber length
- barrel length
- proof in oz or grams
- sidelock or boxlock
- ejector or non-ejector
- sleeved or original barrels
- quality of walnut, checkering, engraving

Yes, poor showing from me really, I'll update the original post too.

12g

15" (ish) stock, no, or limited cast

2 3/4 chambers, but would consider 2 1/2

Sidelock ejector preferred, but not a snob to high quality boxlocks

Profuse engraving, but not essential.

Not being funny but wouldn’t you just buy that macnaughton above and get a London best orange recoil pad put on properly to bring it to 15ish inches and then love it until the day you die? The sleeving job means you’ve got a gun with none of the issues of an older gun and can shoot it for your lifetime worry free. Also given what you are looking for ie, the elegant best of fine (uk) gunmaking then surely there’s nothing better or more beautiful than a Scottish round action….you’d has bought a gun for 7k which would be 100k plus today…

You're 100% correct and it's something I'd love to own, but it's beyond my current budget I'm afraid!

The MacNaughton would be a dream, but above my budget!
