Hi reloading primer question. For any 204 guys
I’ve ran out of my usual Remington primers think they were 71/2 and been great but can’t get anywhere .
I’ve a box of CCi 400 primers and a box of CCi 450 Magnum primers also .
Which of the above two would you say is best .
Running Reloader 10x at 25.1grns and a 39gr Blitz king for years and been great .
Any pointers appreciated
Thanks

I find they are all but interchangeable. Normally use rem 7.5s but have used a load with CCI SRP and honestly can't tell the difference.
7.5 s have a thicker cup than the CCI 400. It is important in .223 with heavier bullets but I never had an issue in.204.
Only true way would be load up a batch of 10, 5 with each primer type and run it across a chronograph.

I changed from Rem 71/2’s to CCI 400’s in my .204 a while back. MV didn’t change and they’ve handled my “hot load” with no issue.

CCI 400 will work, might need to tweak your load slightly though.

I would go with the CCI 450.
The Remington 71/2 and CCI 450 have a thicker cup than the CCI 400. Which may be better if your running at max velocity.

@palo is correct. The CCI-400 and the standard SR Rem 61/2 were originally designed for the .22 Hornet and its pressures. Remington used to advise its model was unsuitable for modern higher pressure cartridges, principally 223 Rem. These two primers have thin (0.020") soft cups (as does the standard copper-cup PMC/Murom). Current Winchester SRPs are also on the weak side with 0.021" thickness. CCI-450/BR4s have 25 thou' thick cups using fairly hard brass, likewise the Remington 71/2BR and are much better suited to the 204.

I have never had a problem with swapping primers or powder
I dropped lucky with n133
Biggest problem was seating depth with mine .
And I think most 204’s like a good jump .
But once sorted it’s been consistent

Do you load “max” in your .
It’s not exactly a max load although it’s at top end probably could go a little more but accuracy was best st 25.1gr so stuck with it.
I’ve shot two rifles out with this load over years so reloaded a few at this recipe !!!
I’m no great reloader but just use my rifle a lot.

Thanks I think I’ll try the cci 450 magnums first then .

I always used CCI BR4s in my remington 204. When I ran out of them I got some federal match primers and they were good as well.
I then changed my firing pin and spring for one of the david tubb lightweight units.
Everything was fine and I managed to get some cci br4s again .
I then started to get misfires with the cci.
I assumed they must of been damp so I went back to the federal.
I then got my 6.5x47 lapua and I tried the cci in it .
They worked great and no misfires.
I knew the cci had a thicker cup so I come to the conclusion that the lighter tubb unit was not striking the thicker cci cup hard enough for consistent ignition.
I put the original pin and spring back in and had no more misfires.

Using Rem7.5 primers for my .204 99% of the time.
But have used CCI Br4,Fed 205m without any issues with my homeloads with no recipe change.Never noticed any velocity or pressure issues.

Livens have them in stock… if you’re travelling that way..

I’ll be heading up there from Cambridgeshire once my variation comes through.. I reload for .204 myself and use both Remington 7.5’s and CCI 400’s.
