22 lr subsonic recommendations

I found RWS really good, but hard for me to source easily. Winchester used to be good but I’ve found them a bit hit or miss. Eley subs are doing well for me at the moment. You really need
try a few brands to find what suits your rifle best

Highly unlikely to have any .22 go sonic, most perform in the transonic zone.

When a projectile is in transonic mode, the mach number of the projectile will be within 0.8-1.2 of the speed of sound, so if you have the speed of sound at 1125, then transonic should be from 900ft/s - 1350ft/s. Anything above that will be supersonic and below would be subsonic. It is all dependent of the speed of sound at a particular location. I.E. weather conditions, altitude, etc.

Midas + my go to benchrest round, only very slightly better than Centre-X. Pity they cost so much.
Try SK rifle match. Made in the same factory. I compared a Midas round with an SK. Same head stamp, same lube, same heads, same looking powder - pretty sure is the same stuff but in a cheaper brands box. I shot both at 100yds - zero POI shift

👍 Will do, thank you for the recommendation.

My older cz prefers eley subsonics, Winchester a close second but CCI were erratic in their grouping and noise!

yeah whatever im just trying to help a fellow shooter im not a f**kin scientist:cuckoo:

I use normal tac 22 subs on my cz457 and they work fine there quiet. But as everyone has previously mentioned every gun is different

I've always used Eley HP Subs in my Finnfire Range, but understand that the newer ones aren't supposed to be so good.
RWS HP Subs are also great rounds, accurate, very quiet with no 'crackers' (unlike CCI Subs) but they are very low velocity compared to others. Strangely, I've always found them to function well in semi-autos which doesn't make a heap of sense!
I've owned loads of rimfires and never found one that liked Winchester subs.

Ive got an Anschutz and have struggled to find anything which is as accurate as the old Winchester 42g. So much so I was actually considering getting rid of the rifle with the poor accuracy of all the other ammo Ive been trying. Saying that Ive found the best of a bad bunch to be eley

Have you tried rws/norma? My anschutz loves them

Old Eley subs were once good.
Currently using old pale blue box Winchesters. V good in.my Annie.
Magtech subs when you could get them were also v accurate.

I was looking for a new option and had a play with a fee different brands. Some surprisingly results.
S&B by far the best

Just doing some testing with a new to me 20" T1x and 40gn S&B HP were the best as well.

Aquila HP 38gn were great for lateral but had a bit too much vertical string for my liking. About 80fps spread over 10 which could explain it.

Eley Subs were a waste of time. Poor consistency over the chrono and poor groups
