22 lr subsonic recommendations

Finally got picture to upload🤦View attachment 464741
I’d say that sums up .22lr ammo nicely - on the whole shite👍
After a lot of wasted time finally settled on the Hornady varmint express .22lr 40gr. Ignore the ‘varmint’ marketing ballacks, it is a subsonic🙄 £5.50/box so not too pricey.
Originally used .42gr Australian made Winchester subs which were brilliant, then USA batch hit the UK market (small loose packaging) which were shocking - splayed all over the place & not all subsonic. Started to use Norma .22lr for a while (HP not Tac), better but not brilliant so sticking with the Hornady for now

When your not sure ...... Buy a box of each from the RFD ! Clean barrel and test for the best shooting in your gun , then buy as many you can purchase and store !
The best comp shooters actually travel out of the UK to find the very best brands and batches

I've had good results with RWS and Winchester, the CCI is found to get an occasional louder one. Also some match ammunition Eley and RWS is subsonic and groups very well.

I've tried them loads through my CZ which used to shoot the old winchesters incredibly well. The new winchesters are awful. I've settled now on the CCI. They group okay, haven't had any misfires, very occasionally one will make a crack going a bit too fast. Very odd flyer.

SK very accurate but they're not a hollow point and I had loads of ricochets.

I've tried:

SK Long Range Match
SK Standard Plus
New Winchester
Eley Subs
Eley Match
CCI Subs

Can't get the RWS locally to try unfortunately.
I still have loads of the other brands of 22LR that I'd like to get rid of

I tried the RWS and found they passed straight through rabbit heads and continued onward even though they are hollow point but it’s very shallow . Glad you’ve found something that works 👍

I've found all the subs I've used will go through things like rats and squirrels. As I usually bait an area and shoot against a solid backstop it doesn't matter too much.

I tend to use SK for target use, accurate in my CZ. I did see SK made a hollow point round bit it seems to be discontinued, anyone know why?

Half tempted to get hold of a die that'll swage a hollow point in a non-hollow point bullet.
