Bag of guns

Dunno wot the fuss is about really as one of the prezzies was a “submachine gun” which of course is a banned firearm - soooo no-one could possibly have it…
I well remember many years ago in the Stormont (NI Parliament) toilets a shoulder holster and 9mm were found hanging on the coat rack - my how we laughed…

PS
We have MP5 H&Ks in 9mm in our clubs despite them falling under the “banned weapons” definition….

I suspect that the equivalent of someone losing their licence will happen to the officers concerned. They will lose their authority to be firearms officers and find themselves back doing proper police work, dealing with domestics, minor assaults and so on.

It's easy to say that it's a mistake. Which it is, and they do happen but it's a pretty major one. Thankfully that bag was found by someone responsible. As for why the finder thought it necessary to tell the press, then possibly they used the same criteria that the CPS use when deciding whether to prosecute someone, that being whether "it's in the public interest".

Not the first time this has happened either. Last time they where in a bag on the car roof and they drove off and left them in the street

Could be that one person was responsible for that bag once all weapons inside it.
KB.

Possibly. Although firearms are issued on a personal basis.

It does strike me as a bit haphazard, just chucking your firearms in a bag to carry around. I can't see many private gun owners chucking their guns in a bag that you'd usually keep rusty spanners in. Can't be good for them. Except possibly the odd farmer's old pickup gun.

I vaguely remember that one something about a member of the public found them took too local police station and was threatened with prosecution for being in possession of unlicensed firearms was told should have left in situ and reported to police.
You couldn’t make it really…..

I can easily believe this. I certainly wouldn't want to be in possession of a whole lot of "banned" firearms as I looked for an open police station.

David.

Why did the finder feel the need to inform the media?

Had this been you or I the bag would have promptly found its way to the nearest Police Station's Lost Property Department c/o an in-private chat with the Duty Desk Sargent. That you let slip during the conversation a certain frustration with the time taken to process your current "Renewal" or "Variation" would no doubt be noted.

Good luck with finding an open police station with a lost and found on a bank holiday weekend.

One for the conspiracy theorists perhaps they were as fed up with the mayor as many others and it was left there for someone else to pick up 🤷‍♀️

Happened locally years ago my friend a builder watched the pistol belt slide off the roof of a police car .
They threatened him with prosecution when he handed it in.
Not a very good way to encourage honesty is it 🤔

Ah, but we buy our firearms with our own money
