Flying with guns - BA

As we all know the costs are extortionate! I’ve only ever travelled alone before. I have taken two guns before myself. Later this year my uncle and I are travelling together BA within Europe. Question is - have any of you ever travelled together and put each of your rifles together in one bag? One padlock each for security. Thinking it could half the cost by only paying for one bag without compromising security or creating additional “work”. BA website says “
  • Each bag or case containing firearms or ammunition is subject to a £125 charge each way, payable at check-in, plus applicable local service fees to cover the cost of our specialist firearms and ammunition handling partner.”
Thanks.

Fly with BA a lot carrying firearms.
Never shared a flight case with anyone so can’t comment.
However experience and opinion would advise against doing so. Too many variables without complicating matters. One of you would effectively be traveling with another persons luggage.
Carry weapons on a commercial flight is at the discretion of the Airline and Captain not a given.
High risk of at least one member of Airline staff, security, officials at border/customs or authorities at both ends spoiling your day.
For the sake of saving money I would pay for individual cases rather than risk jeopardising your trip.

Yes all of the above, I have flown with BA, SAA and Virgin with firearms. Now BA charge a flat rate £125 per individual “ box” rifle or ammo each way. It’s never stress free taking firearms and I would certainly not complicate it further by “ sharing” to save some money, given the cost of most trips the air carriage is not that significant. On a recent trip to Europe a few of the guys had Apple Trackers in their rifle and ammo cases, when we landed in Istanbul they were able to let the rest of the group know that all the rifles and kit were still in Heathrow, not a great start to a 5 day hunt!!! Next trip I will be getting a tracker

Another vote for Apple Trackers. Use them in all luggage

Only ever flown BA once with firearms & experience was dire... didn't need an apple tracker to know at least one case with firearms hadn't been loaded as it wasn't visible sat on the baggage dolly as the aircraft pushed back from the stand!

BA's "specialist firearms and ammunition handling partner.” is just that - specialist at cocking things up!

Swapped from LHR to LGW & a different carrier for subsequent trips & never had any dramas since!

Regardless of legalities of sharing a case, I simply wouldn't do it just because of the potential for it to go seriously sideways if you get a 'specialist' who thinks they know better than you...

Be careful of the each way bit. I had an argument at LHR once with BA that it was priced per leg. They only grudgingly shut up when I showed them a receipt that stated end to end not for one leg. Get a receipt. Think they were being racist.

If you are multi leg, make sure it is not offloaded at each leg. Junior staff at ABZ once decided it had to be offloaded at LHR. PITA.

Fly easyJet they are miles better

We are planning a trip this year with BA to Europe and the pricing is clear the £125 is each way per bag, we even looked at upgrading to Business class but they still do the addition £125 charge as do First Class!!! My view is the high charge is to discourage firearms and if you want to bring them then hefty charge. Sadly EasyJet don’t do the route nor does Virgin

Looking at flights to Hungary - cost aside, is it less hassle/better service taking a firearm with EasyJet than British Airways ?

Forgive me, I do not have the IT skills to link a thread I recently posted on BA.

Flying with firearms and why it is a hateful thing...

I have flown with both.

Neither is a joy.

BA (especially last time) were atrocious. Their inability to do their job, was matched only by their 'post match' complaints handling.

If I was going to Europe, I would drive.

Going again to Africa with BA?...I would rather walk...
