Slings for highland stalking

Just asking if I can get some info on people’s experience with different sling options on the hill, whether single or dual sling options are better or even a dedicated rifle pack. Don’t want to break the bank! Needs to be comfy and secure for dragging beasts. Thanks!

Vorn. Don't even bother with anything else, just get yourself a vorn

No pack, you will just put crap in it you don’t need.

The pros either use a Croots rifle slip or lately the Harkila slip as it has a better exterior pocket and integral backpack straps so it can be used as a slip or backpack.

The croots is slim but swings about when on all fours which the Harkila fixes.

Both are superior than a sling as on the final stalk into the shooting position you can get one up the spout still in the slip and drag the slip over the ground the last few yards. A lot easier and you can stay as low as possible.

Don’t take crap you don’t need whatever you do.

Exactly as above just pack a sandwich in one pocket, knife, strap and bins and crack on. Niggeloh popular with lots of my pals especially if you have a swivel on the side of the stock. TBH any sling across the shoulder is fine but I’m sure some of these suggestions are optimum.

Both professional stalkers on Highland estates I've been out with use the small vorn. Both said they would never be 'vorn people'...both now use them religiously.

Buy the small one to avoid over packing and being faffy. Problem solved. Logical place to store your waterproof, sandwich and drag rope too.

Buy a Vorn.

I used a sling for years, bought a Vorn - and wish I'd bought one years ago.

Great bit of kit for hill stalking.

+1 for Vorn - LT12 specifically. No room for anything more than essentials means no excess weight. Rifle stays secure and quiet for the final stalk and is comfy to carry over long distances. Quick release tab means manoeuvre into shooting position is quiet and easy to it’s a great solution, albeit not a cheap one!
