Expiring certificate

Outstanding in my field

My SGC and FAC expire next week (applied 7 months ago). No contact from my local force despite me reaching out.

I’ve contacted a local gun shop about storing my guns as I don’t fancy the 5 year minimum jail term for illegal possession of a firearm.

Assuming no-one contacts me, can anyone confirm that I need to hand back ammunition as well as bolt, mod and rifle?
Also do I need to hand over shotgun cartridges in addition to my shotguns?

Thanks.

I was given a months temporary extension on my FC and SGC when it got close to expiry.

If you go to the Stalking show next Saturday, talk to the police rep for Herts Beds and Cambs, i have found him to be very approachable and helps to get things done.
do you know if bch will be doing variations on the day this year at the stalking show?

Do they have anything on you? If they have they will keep you in dark until day before and tell you to lodge all firearms because you are in for a “suitability review.” That’s your worst case scenario otherwise play chicken and demand a sect.7 extension. But risk a seizure if they have any grounds for failing to renew.
Shouldn’t worry about sundries it’s the firearms they’ll want!
Stick a shotgun with a mate so you can at least have some access to sport until it all gets sorted 6 months down the line.

If your FAC expires you have no legal right to be in possession of any licensable part of the firearms nor the ammo. You need to lodge the lot.
Call your FLD in the morning and get an answer in writing from them.
If they won’t put anything in writing, lodge the guns & ammo and seek legal advise

When you say expires, is that based on the date on your cert or including the 4 month extension?

If you applied to renew in time, you should get an automatic 4 month extension on the expiry on your ticket. That said, I’d still want the FLD to confirm they consider you have the extension.

To answer your question, rifles, shotguns, mods and any other pressure bearing part should be given to an RFD, plus rifle ammo. Shotgun ammo doesn’t require a license to possess, only to acquire, so you can keep that. I don’t rightly know whether you can possess primers and powder without a valid ticket or, whether like shotgun ammo, you only need it to acquire.

Contact your firearms dept first thing, as you sent all paperwork (assuming it was complete) more than 8 weeks prior to expiry you should be given an automatic extension on your certificates, after that it will be a sect 7. You should not have to lodge your firearms due to poor (crap) service.

Yes you can possess, it depends on the wording of the sect 7, I was allowed to carry on as normal with the exception of purchasing, good to see full cost recovery is working, going off the opening post, nothing should be handed into an RFD as he has done nothing wrong and is the victim of poor service, or incompetence

I wouldn’t expect anybody to answer a phone at Beds Herts and Cambs, your best bet is to Email, but that might take a week or more to get a response.

I couldnt even find a number to ring Herts beds and cambs for a friend of mine awhile back and took them months to answer my emails too ..he finally got an extension on his licence to hold his gun with no purchasing of any ammo though

No. Am a good boy and no change in my circumstances.

There’s no phone number or email address just a form with an automated response that says they don’t guarantee to read it.
