22 Creedmoor experience

For those of you who own 22 Creedmoor, accuracy/velocities/bullets/powders/barrel lengths etc.Not looking for load data, just real world experience, and any pitfalls.

26in barrel. 75gr ELD-M over RS60 without pushing boundaries giving 3750fps. Zero'd inch high absolutely deadly point and shoot to 300+. 2mil drop at 600. The new 62gr ELD-VT at 3600 also deadly. Hand load only, brass can be hard to come by. I'm delighted with the decision. Going to try 80gr ELD-X and some monoliths at some point.

26 inch barrel, 75gn ELD-M, RS62.... was also up to around 3700fps but getting heavy carbon fouling and stiff bolt lift. Had to back the load off, down to 3450fps now and no real pressure signs, accuracy no better or worse. Going to try RS70 next.

Alpha SRP brass, CCI SR magnum primers.

Overall accuracy excellent, when I've scared off all the bunnies and whatever else I shoot eggs at 250 to 300M for some practice, tends not to miss and bucks the wind very well, I guess it's a 1/2 MOA rifle.

wow, those speeds sounds like lightening! What are the effect on the carcasses inside 300 meters or so, if i may ask? And what are you guys allowed to shoot with 22 cal in your areas?
Where i am it is quite limited what they will allow you to shoot if you go below 6mm, for example.

Scotland only stipulates 80gr bullet, 1750lb/ft muzzle energy, mainly roe deer and anything smaller. England & Wales require .240 bullet or greater, but still allows the 22s for use on muntjac and Chinese Water deer.

In Scotland you can take any deer with the right 22.
The Creedmoor is one of those that hits the requirements.

What do you reckon would happen if you went down to a shorter barrel?

In my ARC, I’m getting 3650 fps with 52gr out of a 22” barrel. Looking at your numbers, it looks like they’d start to get pretty close out of similar length barrels?

Have one in the cabinet being collected next week by a “high volume” fox shooter -will get you some feedback. Think he sourced Peterson brass from a relative in the states

Barrel is 22”
Re. brass - do you know if you can bring brass back in checked luggage?

You can order peterson 22 creedmoor brass through Brownells UK. You can preorder brass through Spud too and I'm sure other online outlets in the uk also.

The 22 creedmoor is one I'm looking at adding to my ticket in the very near future

When I ran it in QL, RS70 was a touch slow - and hence why I went 60.

Move yourself up to the 62gr ELD-VT - it was designed for the ARC - the BC gives you a lot more from the bullet

Thanks for the replies, guys :-)
Ok, i can see why the 22 CM might be quite interesting to own in Scotland then 👍 How's your experience of terminal performance and carcass damage, going with such potentially high speeds at impact?

I don't know, smallest I've gone is 257Wby and I've not got it up and running yet.

Just tried 25 rounds loaded with RS70, pressure way down but velocity up! Cleans up easier also, very happy.

44.5gn RS70 with 75gn ELDM = 3617fps
(no pressure signs)

43.5gn RS70 with 80gn ELDM = 3500fps (no pressure signs)

44.0gn RS70 with 80gn ELDM = 3541fps but slight primer flattening.
