Any stories of longevity or extreme pushing to the limits of items in life

I have one of those North Face ‘blimp’ bags - huge thing, must be over 150 litres capacity, in what was bright yellow.

That is having its 30 year anniversary this summer and has been on every family holiday in that time and has hardly any marks on it.
But of loose Velcro on the handle, but that’s it.
Totally bombproof and has withstood the careful baggage handlers at 60+ airports around the globe.

The Puma Hunter's Pal on the right I bought in 1976 when I was 16. I have used this knife on all the deer I have shot. Also while I was a shepherd I used it for killing and processing all the sheep for our house and my two bosses houses plus my dog tucker. It would amount to between 2000 and 3000 sheep. The knife on the left is an old but never used Hunter's Pal that I was given for my 65th birthday.

1993, acquired a secondhand already quite ancient small chest freezer when I first got married. Moved a couple of times since then and not on my first wife either. But the little freezer is still going strong. Probably only been turned off for a week total in all that time. It is my ‘head’ freezer, deer heads go in there until I motivate myself to have a trophy prep session (with is very infrequently!)

Crikey, my knives didn't last that long.
The one at the bottom lasted about 9 months from new.

Proper knives 😍

Opinal knife - I had when I was 18 years old, 37 yrs ago. Blade is pretty thin now.
I got one in 1990 and still use it regularly. Snapped the tip off and had to reprofile in 1994, before I knew any better. But it’s still going strong.

My wife's grandma is on track for 106 this year.

About 11-12 years ago she decided she wanted to get us a genuine Turkish rug as a wedding gift, so went to Turkey to get one. However, as she recognised she was getting on a bit, she took a friend with her, just in case. The friend was only about 10 years younger than she was.

I hope I have that constitution if I reach that age!

I’m awful at throwing anything away if it still functions. The oldest thing I have though is my late grandfathers shotgun, that he bought in the 80’s before he moved to Germany.

Not in itself that impressive, but the gun was made in 1906, has had minimal maintenance its entire life (oil and brush) and I still take it out every season.

Reactions: WW.
My dads original Barbour wax jacket from when he started shooting back in 1985, I've now inherited it upon his passing. Cleaned, re-waxed and now worn by me.

Even found some of his old scorecards in the pockets from the clay club we were part of when I was a child.

I have a Barbour quilted waistcoat (from before it became the norm to call them ‘gillets’) that I bought at a country sportsman’s day in 1993 which gets regular use during the winter before getting washed & stored over the summer in the ‘dressing up’ suitcase in the loft ready for next winter.

I also have a microwave that I bought new in 1991 - it still works perfectly but I am about to write a stroppy email to the manufacturers as the light bulb inside blew a few weeks ago & I am outraged 🤬

My grandfather passed away before I was born in 83, but I have his lotus veldtschoen boots. No idea what age they are, but my dad remembers him wearing them when he was a young man. I had them resolved and wear them on shoot days.

Awesome! All you need add for the perfect early Spring morning ramble after a roe buck is a nice wee stutzen and green loden cape!

A Solway Zipper I bought 50 odd years ago for £17. Went back to Barbour 3 times for running repairs and reproofing. Lives in the truck now as an emergency coat and it stinks

My old solway zipper had the stud in fleece lining
It had its own set of fleas of the rabbits we used to put in the poachers pocket 🤷‍♂️🤣
