Off season endeavours

My stalking season has come to a close now until the red rut starts again, thinking towards other hobbies to fill my time.

Hoping to get a good bit of trout fishing done this year, still a bit cold at the moment but the mayfly is not far away. Some tope fishing too, had some nice days on local marks during Covid, hope to hit them again this year.

Then will do a bit of r&r- summer camping with the family & a few drinks (I don’t tend to drink at the weekend during the deer season-prefer clear early mornings).

How do others fill their summers (those that don’t have roe bucks!

I only have a few roe bucks to take off one piece of ground besides my normal work I will mainly be focusing on Antler products (Whiskey flights, candle holders, key rings, bottle openers etc).

And continuing to knock over muntjac when I see them. Pretty much burger / Sausage season so need to keep the customers happy.

Woodpigeon shooting, rabbits, foxes, building release pens etc, supervising my boys’ fishing endeavours. Camping, swimming, lots of paddle boarding, inspecting the grass.

Inspecting the grass is particular favourite. It involves cutting the grass, rabbits, dogs and chickens out, having an early barbecue, charcoal starts just after 1100hrs, a long drawn out feast me cooking multiple courses chef’s table style with 5-12 people, a few beers, then about 1500hrs I go and inspect the grass… code for lying down in the sun and gently nodding off whilst listening to the birds.

Stalking is my summer shooting.

But I have got back into coarse fishing,

Pheasant poults arrive beginning of August so they take precedence from then on.
