Logging shooting activity

Why should anyone feel compelled to inform the police before engaging in a perfectly lawful activity?

It's just good sense, little trouble and makes it easier if someone complains. I also report to the police 48 hours in advance every car journey I intend to take, every time I intend to carry any money, every time I plan to go to the pub, go shopping, go for a run, pretty much every legitimate activity really..

People say the police are overworked and buried in admin. I can't imagine why. They love it when I call and it is such a good use of taxpayers' money to keep them busy with masses of unnecessary communications.

If you honestly do that, you need to get a LIFE!

Only reason is that I have a suspicion he might wrongly report illegal activity involving a firearm and then it would be a pain in the ass dealing with armed response unit and a total waste of their time. I’m out 2 or 3 times a week and would only consider calling in on this place due to a certain set of circumstances. Not compelled as such but I do take your point.

We have by Law to login in with Police when we are night shooting and using OOS, very simple, just fill in the pro forma and e-mail to them, non of this waiting 20-30 mins. We have had on several occasions been contacted by the Police to see if we were in that area, and save a wasted journey by officers. There is also a benefit from this is that they do contact us when we run past our finish time and we have not contacted them to say "Finished", this is just another safety net in case something has gone wrong..
Not really a big issue as far as we are concerned, I would rather do that than have an ART turn up and give us the third degree, and have them remove our Firearms because one of us has forgotten his ticket or remove them when they think there has been an offence committed, completely disrupting your evening's work, and then having to go and get them back, which is a nightmare in itself, especially when the officer dealing with it is off duty..
