A Word of Warning.

This is just aimed at lads who have stalking in South Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and North Cambridgeshire.
A couple of men from a company called Deerwise have been visiting farms in the area.
They are offering a service to obtain money for landowners from the Government (although the govt have not finalised the system) and are promising to control the deer on any land they obtain. Apparently they will put in people to achieve this, but they also sell sporting outings so it doesn't take much to see what's happening. They profess to manage large areas of land and therefore will need a fair number of people to service this.
Just thought it was worth mentioning this as they have already visited farms my area and where a friend has stalking, so have a word with your landowners/farmers to see if they have been approached. They won't get much joy with our estate either Agent or Boss so it doesn't bother me.

Nothing to do with me really. not my patch but sparked my interest as don’t like the thought of people pinching permissions.

On the other hand they might be a couple of decent blokes trying to make a living out of deer.

Anyway the details are easy to find on Companies House

I'll admit I did the same lookup. Just started their business it seems. Claims for europe-wide sporting connections on their website, too. Getting permissions isn't easy, being an incorporated business may help them do it I suppose.

Yes got that info already thanks. Obviously trying to obtain more land to extend their sale of sporting activities. Talk a good case with farmers about making more money from deer and future grants involved. I agree they are trying to make a living from it, but by canvassing landowners to change the management they already have in place. As I stated I personally have no problems as the job I do and other land where I manage deer is not going to be taken over by them . Our Agent is very sharp regarding gov't grants and I will use her knowledge to assist the owners of other land I manage.
I Only posted this as there are.pockets of land in the area where single stalkers could quite easily lose there permissions to such groups.

I knownone of the familes well, if they say good morning, check time and weather. Absolute liers.
Wouldnt touch with a barge pole.
I had heard they were trying to become guides. No doubt they will catch someone but it wont last, non of their permissions do

I've met Joe and Albert from Deerwise. They provide a full range of professional services including guided stalking, but also deer surveys, management plans and culls. they are trying to make a living out of deer stalking, but if you are providing a good service to your land owner, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I certainly don't but I only found out from one of my farmers who they had approached and the tactics they used. Hence my note of warning to others. We also have a very good deer group in my area, they have commissioned drone surveys and issued results to all interested parties at their meetings, they are also up to speed with grants etc. I cannot see any advantage for individual land owners to engage and pay this company when they already have most things at their fingertips. Perhaps the lure.of "You can make more money " (and we can) out of letting us manage your deer might influence some, but hopefully with most it will be ' Better the devil you know'.

Probably an element of "Chancers" in there somewhere...

Nobody cares until they lose a bit of stalking because the landowner has been swayed by the promise of even more gold & riches.

Nothing worse than some keen stalker-type trying to take every bit of land he can, so he has more ground to take a client out on...

With respect "they are trying to make a living out of deer stalking" all of us but the very few have jobs which pay the day to day bills new kids clothes morgue holiday's (long list) leaving a bit of time for stalking.
This in bold tells me they have jobs but want to take away the stalking which someone has worked hard for to gain via their "mission statement"

Ratel would not have posted it unless he thought it was warranted, with the ground I shoot they would be told at point of contact to
"leave" :tiphat:

You can be as close as you like and doing the best job that can be done. Ok it's a free market and the one thing that can take all that away is £££££ with some folk.
True, but that’s not a farmer you want to stalk for if he’ll ditch you for a fiver more.

Your probably be surprised how many enquiries your landowners get weekly and don’t tell you about.

Hell, I’ve probably enquired with 250 farms locally where other stalkers are already, that’s the way it is - not trying to take someone’s stalking, but how am I to know if the ground is open or if the stalker there is doing a horrible job and landowner looking for help

Taking your last paragraph that's an awful lot of farms locally all with stalkers on them. Are they just a few acres each because here that would cover the whole district. I agree that you do not know unless you ask and obviously you have received a lot of "No thank you's". It's when you are told that stalkers are in place and you spend an hour or two trying to change the farmer's mind, just because you have spotted deer on the land.

I have found over time adding farms through foxing also being very handy with my mobile welder also ticked the stalking box which trumps all the PR

Best way altogether if you offer various services that a farmer needs. Also worked well for a couple of lads who helped me when I was up to my neck in pheasants and had deer to cull, now one is with me again.
I think I have now exhausted all I have to say on the subject as it was originally only meant as a heads up for local lads.
