Reading these wait times reinforces how much of a postcode lottery and frankly what a shambles our licencing system has become in most forces.

The home office is as much to blame as the failing individual forces.

However, there are exceptions. GMP's new FLM has done wonders for their FLU and their unit turned my coterminous grant around from application to certs in the letterbox in just under 4 months. Plus mine was not an entirely 'straightforward' case either.

Isn't it telling that the Op has to post his question on TSD rather than simply being able to pick up the phone and talk to his FLD?

Yeah. I've seen some horror stories of people waiting weeks for responses to important emails or not even being able to find their departments phone number etc.
Apart from being a shambles of a service to their customers, this also raises public safety concerns as actionable information or intelligence won't be shared and/or be able to be acted upon.

It's a lose lose for everyone involved
