Early mornings

Nothing beats the spring mornings still a touch of frost on the car and a full on bright sunrise as you reach your ground. Young Bucks moving While old buck defend there territory, Bird song loud and proud long before the hustle and bustle of the morning rush hour. A deer in the bag is a bonus and a welcome tightening on the shoulders on the way back Sleep can wait till i have time for it.

you got it backwards, nothing like a late November morning, frost on the ground, you walked into your hunting grounds. The does are still moving, hopefully one hasn’t been serviced yet and she will attract a 10 pointer, but even if she doesn’t it’s almost a religious experience. I hunt alone, life is to short to put up with the b#$&& S&$#& of the group.

I rarely do evening stalks. Dog walkers, joggers, ramblers and god knows what else. Then the gralloch is done by the light of a headlamp. (Always supposing that you can find your shot deer first).
Now on a summer morning the whole country is abed, and I seem to have the world to myself. Magic.
Now I know that you have to get some sleep, but I am one of the lucky ones who can go to bed at 7pm and sleep right through till the alarm goes off at silly o'clock. (I worked shifts all my life).
I'm 87 next month and still love early morning starts - Or the middle of the night ones).

I’m not a morning person and for a long time my nearest ground as a good hours drive with little to no deer.
Now, with some land 10 minutes away, I am more than happy to do mornings. Ok more than happy, is probably pushing it a bit, but, I can do it.

Haven’t done summer mornings since pre-young kids, energy suckers the wee Shiites 😂 having just had a new puppy at 8 weeks, I’m now reminded daily what the world looks like at 4 am standing outside waiting for it to do what it needs to do - looking over the fields and seeing deer moving and grazing makes me want to hit the morning summer stalking again, - just need to regain that energy from my ‘20s and 30’s!
