Mauser 25 Max - ejectile dysfunction…

Pal was out today with his brand new .243 Mauser - first shot dropped a buck, brilliant, super…. Then he cycled the straight-pull bolt but no brass came out. Fortunately he was on a shooting pal’s farm and a cleaning rod sorted the clearly one-off problem. Few minutes later another buck - bang flop, cycled the bolt and again the brass remained in situ!
Sooo - my advice was to take it back but maybe out of curiosity clean the chamber just in case oil or grease had created a seal on the brass thereby preventing extraction, then fire a few test rounds to see if this resolves the problem.
The rounds of (his) choice are Hornady - anyone encountered this with their new Mauser chaps?

PS he is in Scotland - I am in NI so I couldn’t examine the rifle.

This is the perfect opportunity for him to get a refund and buy a straight pull Steel Action rifle instead to correct that mistake. Fortunately for him the importer is in Scotland too!

I had extraction problems with Hornady Outfitter in my Sauer 202.
