My 2 GWP’s have had about 5 over the past 4 years. My GSP is great with chickens, apart from eating their layers pellets & their ****.

Currently on a walking holiday in the Lakes with my two and the three boys, ticking off Wainwrights. This picture was photobombed by the dog. Not a nice composition (or flattering angle 
) but it really does illustrate the physique of these breeds. Lay people often mistake fitness for thinness in dogs. You have to remember that these are long distance athletes, they should not be chubby!

They will smash through rough cover if they know what there is game in there. Whereas a good spaniel or wirehair will smash through rough cover in the hope to find game.
At the end of a shoot day they are cut to shreds, the blue spray and staple gun comes out of my kit bag.

That’s a fact, it’s a bit of a balancing act, do I let the dog work out heavy cover with the likelihood that she’ll need a week or two rest and recuperation or call her out?
I have a HWV called Sika and is 13 yrs old. He was a bugger to train but when he got the hang of following deer blood trails and retrieving to hand there was no stopping him. He has saved me a number of deer I would not have found. Unfortunately he has been diagnosed with cancer and is on steroids but still keen to get out albeit can only manage short distances now. What a dog !

Serious looking chap there! Looks a cracker
I have a couple of wirehaired vizslas, find them much more of a user friendly pointer than their German cousins! I imported a dog from garamparty kennels in Slovakia last year, don’t think I’d have another breed now, seem a good all rounder for most tasks!
