Hospital venison

Is there not an English setup that provides to Hospitals? I'm sure someone started it a couple of years ago.

I'm back down in London hospital with my lad & venison meatball on menu - popular & very nice it was too.

Though the lady serving did 'have to let you know it's venison'. Heard few people query what that means...!!?? I told her thats why im getting it!20260601_133149.webp

Found this online. Not sure if its spread further than the original scheme location. Unfortunately Highland Game are also mentioned so no guarantee of it being British. The other company involved sources its venison from Ireland according to their website.

How the f*ck can they get away with low carbon quote if its supplied via highland game and good chance it in part came from over side of the fu*king planet ?!
Bloody sham!
Dunnoe how they get away with such blatant pi5h !

FE Lakes forest district were supplying NHS in the NW of England about three years ago, sadly the person at the NHS left and it died a death

My daughter is a NHS nurse and she sent me a photo of the hospital menu which states there will always be low carbon dishes including venison pie and venison hotpot. I hope the low carbon part includes not importing from NZ! Paul
If it comes from the other side of the globe , its from the UK Dealers ripping off the Consumers

One of the principle remits of the EU was to protect EU producers against cheap foreign imports. The EU quality bar is quite deliberately high. The EU is also slow to change and requires the consent of all member countries.

Farage and Boris misled the British people and now that we are outwith the EU our barriers to entry of foreign products produced very cheaply elsewhere in the world are much lower.

For those running businesses etc its easy enough to bypass British producers and source from elsewhere where costs and standards of production are very very much cheaper than in the UK.

If you look at our major retailers - they are all making very good profits, so to will be their major suppliers. Smaller businesses are struggling.

Thankfully the British Government has recently realigned food production with the EU so that much of phytosanitary (ie vet certification) will no longer be in force from mid 2027, so the small scale British producers will again be able serve EU consumer markets again without all the Red Tape.

Unfortunately much of the EU customer base which British Companies did have will have gone elsewhere and it will take considerable time, energy and cost to win them back. And sadly many of those British producers are no longer, with all their staff and skills doing something completely different. However the knowledge base is there and hopefully new momentum will gather.

Im all for more sales and exposure of venison ....
But what i have issue with is supplying the venison from the other side of the world ...all it takes to get it here ....then labelling that same well travelled carbon rich venison as environmentally resourced and low carbon .

When we have venison in this country that we jump thru hoops to supply and find next to no market for it

In this day and age it makes no sense

It’s all down to the uk buying at the right price, £1 is $2.25nz it’s cheap venison nothing more, nothing less
