Conviction slot on application/renewal

Can I ask what you advise if you get no reply please, twice in my case, for example speeding prior to 2006, with the written form its quite easy to explain that and discuss with the FEO, the online form is more restrictive with the way you answer and is more of a tick box
It's still possible to enter details via the online yes not as good. You can always email this way it can be audited so no come backs on you. You can also give them a call leave them a message mention you have asked twice but received no response.

In the UK there is, or should be, a high threshold to possessing and using firearms. You need to demonstrate you are a fit and proper person.

This all starts with the application. Of course the Police can and will check the Police records and will do so to confirm that you have been open and honest about previous mistakes.

I did get prosecuted for speeding 20 years ago. Firearms Enquiry Officer rang me up and said they had noted my offence. He then told me that If it happened again they would be giving consideration as to whether I should continue to hold an FAC as it would indicate that I disregarded the laws of the land.

Yes, the speeding offences is a nice one to catch out a few more shooters.. get a couple over the summer abd expect a phone call, and if you drive enough its easily done with all the average speed cameras around... it turns out these are not always operating within the law... see what's happening 🙄

Im not ramming anything down anyone's throat. Why would I be cross i dont expect everyone to agree. Just offering some help and advice based on working in a fld for three years. Ill let the folk on here decide for themselves who's advice to take. Have a nice day.
Is this you Jeff

Thanks to all those who contributed here and voiced their opinions, at 62 I'm renewing my FAC, I normally state that I have minor motoring offences but don't have specific records. I think I'll be doing a SAR to obtain my real history to provide with my application, better safe than sorry. I've also spent a lot of time overseas and have minor motoring offences in a number of countries, life gets complicated !!!

I did a SAR recently, records only go back so, about 20 years from memory

While accepting this is a hypothetical question, an SP30 isn't a conviction.
Accrue as many as you like as they don't need to be declared at all.
A fews years back the local Firearms officers doing a home visit upon a renewal told me I HAD to list anything and everything, including speeding fines. Which is ridiculous as anything of interest to them should be on their own database. So I word it now as: 'Along with anything else I may have unintentionally missed or forgotten. Please refer to your own records'.

I just write, "Please refer to your own records" then explain how im hardly going to remember times and date of any previous convictions, never had any problems that way 👍
like they dont check anyway
I do the same.
I also do it with medical history.

I list everything I remember but add to the medical and convictions sections this:
'Along with anything else I may have unintentionally, missed or forgotten. Please refer to your own records'.

oh dear us very senior gun owners are in trouble, I have a job remembering what I did last week yet alone decades ago 😊

Clearly more backside covering by the police, they do a bad job like Plymouth and as previously said we are the ones that are held responsible for it.

Asking for a friend who currently has an FAC…

They have been summoned to court for totting up, this will be the second time in the space of 2 years after managing to keep their license on hardship grounds the first time round. It looks like it will be a ban this time round. What implications would this have on they’re FAC?

What is totting up? Same language, different countries......... Thanks

It basically means if you've got a certain number of points speeding offences etc in a certain period, you can't be issued with another fine and points and it has to be dealt with via court who may then apply a ban. The implications for firearms licensing is that they may consider that evidence of an unwillingness to stick to the law and a lack of good judgement, and they view that as a concern for someone who owns firearms.

Totting up is when you get a series of low number penalty points (say three points in 2024, two lots of three points in 2025 and two more of three points in 2026) which when "totted up" (or added together) make 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15 points total. Internet says this "You can face a driving ban if you accumulate 12 or more penalty points within a 3-year period. This is known as a 'totting-up' ban, and the minimum disqualification is 6 months." So totted up the court invites you to come and receive a driving ban.

Agree with the lack of good character in the eyes of the law

However "totting" like these two did is something entirely different from "totting up". As RAFTER said same language different country. I can't remember when I last saw a genuine "totter" as in once crying "rag, bone" with the wagon and the horse but it would have been maybe the late 1960s. But yes I do recall they'd come through the village.
